Description: Restaurant Palace Paladini is placed at the old ancient part of City of Hvar. We offer fish delicious, meat and vege specialities, greatest wines and champagnes (Dom Perignon/Rose, Crystal, Moet & Chandon...).The palace where you are about to eat belonged to an old noble family from the Hvar called Paladinic (Paladinis - Italian version; de Paladinis - Latin version).Palace de Paladinis, built in renaissance style, is one of the most beautifull and outstanding Hvar palaces, situated in the southern part of the oldest nucleus of the town Hvar below the fortress known as Forto Spagnuolo. The upper palace Paladini was once the residence of Petar Hectorovic. Coat of arms found above the main entrance to the palace, on the family well erected in the garden, on the renaissance basin on the balcony of the palace and on the balustrade of the balcony bares two motives: a royal lily on the upper field and eagle`s wing of Subic family on the lower field. The present-day form of the palace (ground-floor, three upper floors and a monumental balcony - one of the most beautiful in Dalmatia) was designed by Nikola Paladinic, son of Jakov, who fought very bravely in the seabattle between Venetian and Turkish fleet. After the battle the Republic of Venice proclaimed him the knight of St Marc with golden toga.Palaces of Hvar noblemen clearly evidence of economic prosperity and cultural development of the local families in the 15th and 16th century. Furthermore, rich plebeian families always tried to keep step with noblemen which is quite manifest from their residental palaces (Vukasinovic-de Lupis, Garguric) that equal in their beauty even the most famous of noblemen of the town Hvar (Lucic, Paladini, Hectorovic, Gazarovic, Garguric, Vukasinovic...) where not erected during the period of town`s greatest prosperity, but only after the year 1571 when turks burnt the town and 1579 when lightning struck the ammunition warehouse at the town fortress causing a tremendous catastrophy.

“Waitress from Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

We also chose this restaurant from guide books and found it extremely disappointing. The main cause of our disappointment was the waitress, who may well have been the owner, When we did not take her suggestion of a whole fish for the 3 of us she became rude, disinterested and condescending. On complaining that a pasta meal had no flavour of the ingredients listed she bought out some more of the sauce to show what was in it. I told her that it was delicious with the extra sauce but she was not interested!!!! The other meals were extremely disappointing and overpriced. The Lamb was very tough and the Scampi was overcooked. After our meal we were not asked if we wanted desert or anything else - she just ignored us. Dont ruin a night in Hvar by going there.

“Good food, good company and the waiter joins in the fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2012

had a great pesto here and my friend had the most perfectly cooked fillet steak. We sat outdoors under the orange trees which was lovely besides the occasional leaves that fall on your table. Had a grappa with our waiter at the end of the night. Reasonable pricing, good portions

“Great food and patio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2011

We had a sea bass (Branzzino), clams and shrimp. All were very well made and fresh. The patio is extreamly nice at night. Don´t expect it to be cheap (as all seafood restaurants are not). Only downside is that no creditcards are acceped (as in most places in Coatia). My friends and I all loved it.....

“DO NOT EAT HERE! They will rape your wallet and give you no food choices...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

... and when you realise you don't have enough money for a meal that costs 4 times as much as it should, they will not allow you to pay by Visa as the machine is "broken" and make you go to the bank to get cash - TAX AVOIDANCE and MONEY LAUNDERING perhaps. The waiters push for high bills so their tip is higher.

So upset that we ever visited this place. The waiter was a very nice guy, but now we realise that he conned us into ordering a whole grilled fish - presenting us with the same size fish for us to share between 2 people, as a table of 6 received! The waiter assured us we could take away whatever we didn't eat - what... two thirds of it?!

Our side order was luke warm when it arrived.

We were not allowed to look at the menu, simply offered steak or fish - obviously due to the fact the bill will be however much they decide to charge, whether you want that much food or not.

The waiter tried to give us a 35euro bottle of wine - we had to ask twice for the wine list so we could have a choice.

Our most negative experience of Croatia - shame on you!

“Pessimo”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2011

A nightmare. Bad restaurant. Do not take the pot Paladin magnified on the list as a dish for two (400 kuna, not just in Croatia) with squid and shrimp shells in fact results in mussels and clams with a shrimp and a small head to head small squid. All cooked with lots of garlic industry. In total we have spent 720 kuna for sick! A word of advice: stay away.
