“Loud and old”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

I spend 3 days in the palace in Hvar. The location is wonderful, in the middle of the old town just with the view to the port but the location is not good for all. Clubs, cafes, restaraurants are just around the hotel and therefore, it is getting loud during almost all night. There is no A/C in the room and due to this, the windows are opened and as it is loud, some will not be able to sleep well. Even if you keep the windows closed, it will not be silent. The intrastructure and furnitures are old and looks like in the 70s. The hotel as such would require a complete new make up. The breakfast is good and you can enjoy it on a great terrace of the Restaurant San Marco.

Room Tip: It is not worth to book a hotel with a balcony. This is very small and beside the small table and tw...

I choose Palace when I visit Hvar alone. Hotel is old but the price is reasonable. Besides the location, this place has amazing staff. Ante is the best! He will give you advice, show you around, find parking place for you and make sure your phone is workong. Hvar has great restaurants with seeafood variety to offer. If you want to try traditional Hvars' specialty, just stay at Palaces' San Marco Restaurant located on magnificent terace, and ask for 'Gregada' and domestic vine Posip.

Dear Aida66,
Thank you for your stellar review! I am glad to read that you had an amazing time at Hvar and hotel Palace! It means so much to hear that you found our staff so attentive and eager to provide exemplary service. Our San Marco terrace restaurant is one of the most beautiful places in Hvar, where you can always taste traditional Hvar dishes, with superb views of the Hvar harbour. Your experience certainly obliges us to keep it up, so that your next stay with us becomes yet another unforgettable memory. We will be very happy to welcome you on your return to hotel Palace!

This hotel has so much potential. It could be amazing. The location is wonderful, as are the views from the harbour facing rooms. Sadly a refurb is very very much in need (about 10 years ago would have been better). The building is tired, the rooms are basic and have seen better days and air con is really a must in these temperatures! If you want a bargain then stay here but next time I think I will stump up some extra cash for a better hotel!

Dear ladylianne_25,
I would like to thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am happy to read that you have recognized great potentials of hotel Palace historic building and its unbeatable location, with amazing views of the beautiful Hvar harbour from the rooms which face the sea. Hotel rooms and public areas are regularly cleaned and maintained to provide comfort of a 3-star hotel. Additionally, we have air-conditioned hotel public areas (the restaurant and front desk area) and introduced WiFi to make our guests' stay a more enjoyable one. We do hope that your stay with us was a pleasant one and that you have enjoyed the charms of the island and the town. We hope to welcome you in hotel Palace on your next visit to Hvar!
With kind regards,

Very basic 3* hotel, clean and stuff is friendly. It was probably a very posh hotel back in 70s :). They do need to have air conditioners in rooms. Breakfast was ok as for 3*. Location is great - right in the centre of the town, close to restaurants, bard, beach, boats, etc.

Location is the best
No airconditioning in rooms is the worst

Genenal decor is tired, I thought I was back at Uni halls.

For an extra £40 a night its worth going to the Amfora. Location is a tiny walk out but if your going in the height of summer its a dam site better.

Dear Paul S,
Thank you for staying at hotel Palace and for posting your review. Built at the turn of the 20th century, and protected as a cultural heritage ever since, hotel Palace has become one of the cornerstones of Hvar’s tourism offer. Although the hotel is planned to be thoroughly reconstructed, we keep the interior very well maintained on regular basis on a 3-star level. You have probably noticed that hotel restaurant and front desk area are air-conditioned, while rooms have ceiling fans. Additionally, Wi-Fi is available at lobby bar, San Marco terrace and front desk area, free of charge for hotel guests.
Thank you once more on your feedback. I do hope you have enjoyed staying in Hvar and we look forward to welcoming you back to Hvar and to Sunčani Hvar Hotels!

Best regards,

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights during August in a standard sea view room. The view was awesome, but we were out most days so were never in the room to enjoy it. The room was tidy, housecleaning were trustworthy, but it was quite tired. Our main gripes were that there is no air conditioning, the Internet is only available in certain hotspots, and it's expensive at €222/night. Good location and good breakfast, but both probably don't justify the price.

I agree with what I have read by most people on here. The draw of the hotel is really the location. It is right in the center of town. Beautiful exterior and wonderful breakfast area, overlooking the harbor. However, wouldn't recommend this hotel in summer. WAY too hot, and even though our room overlooked the harbor, we got absolutely no breeze. The room was significantly hotter than it was outside. Made sleeping really difficult.

And yes, no wifi in rooms and even out in the lobby it was spotty. Not a huge issue, but every other hotel we stayed in in Croatia had no problem with wifi, so it was annoying.

Also, our room was noisy pretty late because of noise from the restaurants and bars. We weren't sleeping early though, cause we were too busy trying to cool down. But just a little irritating.

The front desk seemed understaffed, but the women that were working there worked really hard and were very pleasant and helpful.

The hotel has a lot of potential, being such a beautiful building with a lot of history, but it needs to be renovated a bit. A lot of character that isn't being utilized.

Dear Linds83,
Thank you very much for taking your time to provide impressions about your stay with us at hotel Palace.
We are most grateful for your positive comments about the hotel appearance – a historic exterior and a wonderful breakfast area. We are also pleased to know that our staff made your stay an enjoyable one.

With regards to a/c at the hotel, the truth is that guest rooms do not have air conditioning, like the restaurant and front desk area do, but they all have ceiling fans, and we provide extra fans to rooms on request. Wi Fi is available at the lobby bar and front desk area free of charge. These are some of the amenities we have decided to introduce to the hotel to make our guests' stay more comfortable.

We continually work on improving our service levels, so that you can enjoy staying at Palace during your future visits. Thank you once more on your feedback! We look forward to seeing you in Hvar again.
