“Impressive Hotel!”

We stayed at the Amfora for 3 nights in September.

The hotel was a little expensive (and we stayed in the annex?) but Hvar is an expensive place to eat, drink, etc

The location of the hotel was very impressive, with a large pool, bar area and private beach and a 5 minute walk to the centre.

We arrived via the ferry from Split (50 min) and the hotels bus was there to pick us up!

The rooms were very modern and clean with all the expected extras, LCD TV, air con, safe, wireless broadband etc.

Breakfast was great everything you would want and had nice sea views.

The hotel provide you with a credit card, which you can use at other hotels which gives you 10% discount on the bill, but they bill your room, which i thought was excellent!

Would definitely stay again even at these prices!

“Luxury hotel, at a reasonable price”

We really loved this hotel. It was a little pricer than the other hotels/apartments we stayed at in Croatia, but Hvar is pretty expensive anyway. Even though the hotel was just a 10min walk from the town and port we got picked up from the ferry when we arrived and our luggage was taken to the port for us when we departed - very good service! We didn't have to pay any deposit for our beach towels, so not sure why the other reviewer said he had to. Anyway, see below for pros and cons...

Pros - Very comfortable bedroom - great shower, comfy bed and nice decor; friendly staff - the guy who checked us in and the concierge spoke fluent English and were very helpful; good location - about 10 min walk into the town (there were other hotels right in the town like Riva but they were very expensive); could get 10% off the other bars/restaurants that were in the same group as Amfora, this meant we had about 10 to choose from in the town - we had cocktails at Riva which was great with the 10% off; good pool area and lovely view of the sea from the pool and from the breakfast room.

Cons - View of the car-park rather than the sea from our bedroom (but then we paid for the cheapest room so what do you expect); could have been closer to the town (but then would have to pay more).

“A great honeymoon”

We stayed at the Amfora for our honeymoon (1 week). We were originally given a small but modern room overlooking the carpark (!) but we were moved to a much nicer room with a partial sea view and a large balcony (almost a junior suite) at no extra charge.

The pool area is great. We did not once have to put a deposit down of 100 kuna for a towel at the pool (see review below). The sun lounger service was very good and the pizzas at Cascades were good value.

The walk to the old town is very nice and there was no noise at all. Much easier to relax at the Amfora then if you stayed in central Hvar Town. The free concierge service was also great.

The buffet breakfast was really good and varied.

There were negatives i.e. room could have used a little updating but the positives far outweighed the negatives. The Adriana and Riva are definitely smarter and more chic but they do cost a lot more than the Amfora. On balance we were very happy with our choice of honeymoon hotel.

“Amfora - the good and the not so good”

Amfora Hotel

Sep 14, 2008

We stayed at the Amfora because we wanted a pool and and as far as I know it's the only in-town hotel that has one. The pool is nice but you'd be advised to bring your own towel as you have to leave a cash deposit of 100 kunars to use one of the hotel towels! The rooms are outdated and small but clean. It appears to be a communist era hotel with a new front and lobby slapped on but no improvements to the rooms. It's a very nice stroll from the main part of town and we enjoyed that. I felt that the price was high for the quality of the accomodation but the staff was helpful and the overall experience good. There were no issues at all with noise or any other annoyances.

“Fabulous Hotel - worth every penny”

Amfora Hotel

Excellent Hotel, we were originally booked in another hotel in Hvar but had to change due to poor standards.

We stayed here for 5 nights, the hotel is expensive (but so is a lot of Hvar) but it was worth every penny.

The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, especially by the pool, very attentive without being intrusive.

The rooms as modern, spotless and very comfortable, complete with fancy 'The White Company' toiletries.

It was my birthday whilst we were there and on our return from the pool that day, there was a lovely plate of cake with a Happy Birthday message. I thought it was organised by my boyfriend but he hadn't mentioned anything to them. The small things really do count.

Views from the hotel are spectacular, but then they all are on Hvar.

The pool area is 2nd to none on the island. It is open to paying public at 200 kunas per person. The only down side to the pool area is that people place towels down mid morning and leave them empty all day. (you don't have to be up at the crack of dawn to bag a bed though... but please use it :-) )

Hvar town is a short 5 min stroll around the bay, it is pleasent and very safe at night.

Hvar Town can be a bit loud, but if that' s not what you are looking for there are some lovely back streets on the leftside of the square (when you have your back to the harbour) Fab restaurants and a great, funky wine bar... the staff are wonderful
