This hotel is massive! It seems that the hotel is too big to maintain. Issues with paint missing, cracks in the ceiling, and the old freight elevators. There is the main building and the North Wing. I am writing this from the hotel room now. We checked-in on June 20th, into the very far south of the building, which was a maze to find our room. Down 2 flights of stairs, take the elevator down (old freight elevator) one more flight of stairs, down the hall and then down another set of stairs. Even the bellman who took us to our room upon arrival said that our room is difficult to find, (we when said that we didn't need assistance). Our room was nice (or at least we thought). It had a fairly good view on the 2nd floor and was near the pool (which to get to the pool, we had to go back down that ridiculous maze and then take the elevator down 5 flights, or go down a flight and underneath our room was an empty hall with a door that led to a bush you could climb over to get to the pool).
We enjoyed our first full day at the pool and then the trouble started. Towels with golf ball size holes in them were left by the maid, and when we used the tub our bathroom flooded! My wife took a bath after the pool that evening and the tub started to leak from underneath, which flooded the bathroom with standing water! We called the front desk right away and started throwing down all the towels we had. The flood continued to the carpet in the bedroom. The front desk sent someone up who told us that they might need to take apart the bathroom while we were at the pool the next day. He threw more towels down, and put the wet ones in the tub. The next morning I showered over wet towels quickly as to not cause more leaking and my wife skipped her shower. Around noon I came back to the room and it was all fixed and we had new towels! My wife took another bath and the flooding started again! This time is was much worse, all over the carpet and the wood floor. Also, as I looked under the toilet there was a rash of black MOLD! We called the front desk again, and they said they would send someone from housekeeping up. After dinner we returned to our room to find they put towels over the soaking floor and the carpet, but the leak was still dripping. If you go downstairs to the space under our room (how we access the pool), you can see the mold on the ceiling underneath our bathtub! (Scary to think how much is in the wall!)
Then, while attempting to use the bathroom my wife slipped. This was the last straw. We went to the desk, and requested a new room. We were given a better view room, and a room that was easier to get to in the hotel (only 1 elevator ride). They also gave us a nice fruit platter in our room, and offered beach chairs or dinner (though we already have a dinner package with our room). The front desk person (Mario) was very helpful and we thank him for getting us a room without mold and a leak (although we haven't showered in this room yet, as we have just checked into it about an hour ago).
We spent a lot of money on this hotel, buying both dinner and breakfast everyday (food is good, but Hvar has a lot of neat places to eat). We have traveled all over the world and have stayed in average hotels (i.e. Marriots) to higher end (i.e. Mandarin Oriental /Grand Mayan Resorts in Mexico) this is at best average, the best thing about this hotel is the pools, and the location to the beach.
Ask for a room near reception in the main building on the 5th or 6th floor, and look for mold!
