“A place to return to”

Iberostar Epidaurus

We've stayed at this hotel for one week in September 2007, all inclusive. The hotel (rated 3 stars) is nice and quiet but a little bit antiquated. It is near to the airport (3 km) but not noisy. The rooms are fair but caution with the sea view, as there are rooms behind the pine garden with little view. The plumbing is also a bit noisy. The hotel is located in a beautiful bay and about 1 km (15 minutes walking) from the village (and harbour) of Catvat (spelled Tsavtat) and the promenade to there by the shore is really nice. Buses (n. 10, 12 kunas each way) to Dubrovnik departure from there every 30 minutes. You can also take a boat (80 kunas, round trip). The hotel staff is very friendly, except for the rent-a-car guys, who will insult you (as they did to us) for a 15 minutes delay in car return. The food is fine but quite monotous. The beverage (local beer, wine and liquors) is OK. The swimming pools (adults and children) are small and not much popular as you have the hot waters beach nearby (10 meters). The place is near to the surrounding countries and we went from there to Bosnia (Mostar and Sarajevo, 1 day) and Montenegro and Albania (following day. We loved Albania, despite the poverty: people are very friendly). In the end, this place and hotel are a good choice.

My family and I had a weeks holiday in this hotel back in 2004 and we can honestly say that every holiday hotel we`ve stayed at since hasn`t approached anywhere near the standard of the Epidaurus.
We have never revisited a hotel in the past but after reading the recent reviews we have decided to try and book again for next year - this time for two weeks.

“My children found it amazing!”

Iberostar Epidaurus

Aug 30, 2007

Hotel is 3 star and I would agree with the rating. We had a family room which was fairly large - always cleaned with crisp white sheets each day. Reception and everyone else always had a smile. Position of hotel is just ideal - right onto the sea. My children are teenagers and if they are happy then naturally any parents can then enjoy themselves. The Animation club were excellent - always doing something but not pressurising. The water sports were excellent - thanks to Anna, Anna, Kate, Dessi, Lucy and many others too many to mention.

The tablecloths were again crisp and replaced immediately you left the table. Would recommend to any aged family.

The hotel is convenient for a walk into Cavtat and you can get the bus and boat nearby to Dubrovnik.

Many thanks to all. Pauline and family

“good all inclusive, cosmos holiday, at cavtat croatia”

Iberostar Epidaurus

We had a really good week at Cavtat - only 2.5 hours flight, very quick easy airport and only a few minutes to hotel. All inclusive package which was very good value. Cosmos included various excursions - trip to Mostar very good but long, ineresting town. trip to Montenegro, many hairpin bends on mountian road but a good day with beautiful scenery. Another day we went to Ston - town walls, salt flats, seafood lunch, followed by botanical gardens (mostly trees). Another day guided tour of Dubrovnik. Dunrovnik is easy to get to from Cavtat - ferry goes from near hotel, and also from Cavtat.(approx. £8 return). Cavtat, lovely 20 min. walk along by the sea, from hotel. We did book optional trip on the Sunday to folklore performance which we enjoyed, also wine tasting, and embroidery/craft stalls. We found the hotel good value, good choice for meals. Lots of families as it was August, but quiet in hotel rooms. Overall very good value and interesting area to explore.

Iberostar Epidaurus

We have just returned from a fortnight in the Epidaurus hotel and it was the perfect place to use as a base. Although it was an A/Inc establishment, it didn't prevent us from going out and about.
The hotel is located on the sea front but it doesn't have a sandy beach. It does have a short strip of sharp, uncomfortable stones which requires you to wear footwear to swim. Also be aware of the sea urchins................they hurt, according to those who fell foul of them !!
There are two small pools, one for children and a larger one for adults. Not great for swimming but ok to cool off and relax in.
The Cash bar, located by the pool, is handy for beers, spirits, soft drinks and hot drinks. All local brands so don't expect brand named drinks unless you're prepared to pay in Kunas.
The Animation Team are enthusiastic and work tirelessly to encourage others to participate in their games etc...... but they are ever so noisy. Don't expect peace and quiet if you choose to position your sunbeds close to the pool. Not only are they loud but their music is loud also. Having said that, they are a bunch of really nice, polite young people who are keen to impress, and I can't fault their energy and enthusiasm.
The evening entertainment requires some fine tuning. I'm affraid it's the usual one night it's bingo, then quiz night, the music quiz then singing and dancing etc...... They do dance their hearts and lungs out when they put on a show on the platform. It's worth going along to.
Come 23.00hrs......................all inc drinks stop and it's time to get the Kunas out if you intend to continue drinking.
Sunbeds.........I know it's not right and breaks the hotels policy, but if you want a sunbed, get down to the pool area/sea front, and grab a couple when they are unchained at 08.00hrs. If you don't, you will find the Germans, French and Russians will have picked all the best beds( quite alot are broken ) and positioned them in all the best places. You tend to find that a representative from a group will be up to set out their area allowing the others to have a lay in or to enjoy a late breakfast !!! then out comes the towels and bags to claim their prize.
I once got down prior to 08.00 and found all neatly folded towels, on the floor, in the areas where the sun beds were to be placed. Our foreign sun seekers had found another way to stake their claim for best positions and apart from causing trouble, there was nothing really you could do about it. If you can't beat them, join them.
I shall keep my comments about the restaurant to a minimum. In my experience, it's one of the best I've encountered within a 3star establishment. You will never starve. It has variety, quality and quantity.........................Very good.
You can also eat at the Pizeria if you don't fancy the restaurant. Two excellant ladies- Katerina and Radmiila will ensure that you have a comfortable meal and will see to your every need.
The rooms are plain but clean, cool and spacious. The maid cleans up and makes the beds daily, providing clean towels when required. The hotel doesn't provide beach towels so you have to bring your own.
If you don't intend doing anything during your stay, this place can provide plenty of R & R. However, we visited Dubrovnik twice. Once by boat and the other by local bus. We had a fish picnic during a three Island trip by boat, taking in the great scenery. Also a trip to Montengro is a must, taking in Kotor and Budva. We took numerous walks into Cavtat and sat drinking coffee of beer in the bars along the harbour. Very peaceful.

Would we go back to Cavtat ?.............................definately.
