“Good Hotel - Nice Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We went here at the end of October, in fact the last week that Thomsons went there this year. The Hotel was only a fifth full and was therefore very quiet. It is placed on a cliff side with lovely views across the sea, although there did appear to be some garden facing rooms. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff were friendly and management friendly and available if needed. The views from both sides of the Hotel are great. Food quality was good even though they were cooking for only a small number of guests. We found the air conditioning a bit odd as it never really cooled the room in the evening to a level that was comfortable for us to sleep in. Perhaps that's us Englanders coming from a colder climate. There are a great number of steps around the grounds which taxed many people, although the hotel does lay on a buggy to the harbour side as and when required. We chose to walk and as we are both aged 60 it can't be that bad.
Cavtat is a small town built around a small bay. There are walks around the area which are well laid out and very picturesque. The water taxi to Dubrovnik is great and avoids a load of steps down from the drop off point in Dubrovnik if you decide to go by bus, although the bus is cheaper. Dubrovnik is excellent and the wall walk a must. Disappointed with the cable car, expensive for what it is. We also visited Lokrum which was a really lovely island and a great walk about. One thing which we were unprepared for were the Gnat bites. They seemed to be anywhere there was vegetation. I don't know whether this was a seasonal thing but it's worth remembering when you go out. We had great weather, better than expected and a lovely time here. Summing up Good Hotel, good location, great weeks break

Located in Cavtat, a few miles from Dubronik. The hotel is built around the cliff and it is the best as far as location is concerned. We had a see view room and watched sunset everyday, breath-taking experience. The room is luxurious and with high quality furniture, although the balcony is on the small size. Food was reasonable but 3* standard really. The service was excellent and they tried hard to help. There are 2 pools and 1 of them is sea water. There is an outdoor sunbathing area on the cliff and it is naturist's paradise ....... There are many good restaurants in the hotel and the seafood one is fantastic whereby you can dine by the sea at nite, amazing ! The grill room is supposed to be very famous but we didn't get round to it. Also, it is indoor as well ! A big bar but we were there a few times with very few punters ! There were many Russians and Germans and they can be quite blunt and most sunbeds are gone by 8 am but always nobody using them !! The hotel is great and you can travel to Dubronik by boat and it is wonderful to do it.....

Room Tip: Choose sea-view room and higher floors

We had made a 2 days reservation of a seaview room of Hotel Croatia located 10 kilometers from Dubrovnik. It was our plan to continue on the road with stays in Montenegro, Bosnia and Croatia. However we ended up to stay at this hotel all week and just go on day trips by car - - - and we even sometimes just stayed at the hotel all day. It is simply one of the most beautiful places I have had days off. We chose Cavtat due to many remarks here at Tripadvisor - a small town outside beautiful Dubrovnik but even close by car, bus or boat. A pitoresque spot with beaches, small islands and a wonderful view of the sea. The hotel itself is 10 mins walk from Cavtat harbour with a number of small restaurants. It is surrounded by sea on 3 sides and have beaches on 2. So if you don't enjoy the in door pool or the outdoor pool (with seawater) with nice surroundings you just take (many) stairs to one of the beaches. The rooms are nice - and the extra costs for a balcony is value for money even in the end of season. Good internet connection all over the hotel - different types of restaurants including evening buffet and breakfast buffet. The croatian kitchen is not the most impressing in the world but the restaurants are quite good and especially the breakfast is to be recommended. Dubrovnik airport is quite close (south of Dubrovnik like the hotel), Montenegro only 45 mins away. Only downside here is that I will guess the hotel in high season and perhaps with conferences may be a bit crowded - - - in our case in end of season that was not the case. My best recommendations.

Room Tip: room with balcony and seaview is value for money

We stayed for a week at the end of October on half board. As others have described, it is a huge hotel with stunning views from the various seating areas around the hotel. The hotel was very quiet when we stayed because it was the end of the season (the last week). This meant that some parts of the hotel were closed i.e. casino, along with some seating areas; and we were all rattling around in the vast dining room, but the management team worked hard to minimise its impact and certainly a lot more food was prepared in variety and quantity than could have been consumed. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we had a fantastic, relaxing and quiet break. I'm not sure I'd want to be there in the height of the season though.

Our sea view room with balcony was perfect and we spent many a long hour reading and watching the waves and the boats.... perfect!

The weather was as we would expect for the time of year - a mixture of rain, storms, cloud and sunshine but the weather was warm at about 16 - 18C. The waves lashing on the rocks below our room were memorizing.

The hotel is ideally placed close to Cavat - a delightful, interesting small place with lovely walks. We are in our early 50s and didn't think the steps into Cavat were an issue at all. Either some people must be a lot older or very unfit.

We caught the bus (no 10) into Debrovnik twice during the week and had a trip into Montenegro. Cavtat is ideally placed to dip in and out

We had a delightful, relaxing, chill holiday and would highly recommend and hope to return

Stayed here with my husband and 12 year old son in a family room for one week from 21 October 2012. The family room consisted of two interconnecting rooms which both had their own bathrooms and balconies with fabulous sea views. It is definitely worth paying for the sea view. Rooms were nice, clean and well furnished although the aircon was poor leaving nights rather uncomfortable.

The main areas of the hotel are a little dated but all clean and in good condition. Staff were always helpful and courteous. The room was ready as soon as we arrived at 12 noon which was a good start.

The hotel had very low occupancy when we were there so lovely and quiet. The indoor pool was lovely if a little cool, whereas the outside pool was freezing and always empty except for the very brave! Suspect you need the Summer temperatures for this. We had gorgeous weather for 6 of our 7 days, warm, low 20s and sunny with fabulous sun sets.

The gym was not in great condition with a few broken pieces of equipment and not too much on offer for this level of hotel, but the view made up for a lot!

We had a good buffet breakfast each day and lovely lunches at the poolside restaurant - with absolutely lovely lady looking after us each day and knowing our orders by the end of the week!

Cavtat is beautiful and a lovely place to stay, whilst being close enough to visit Dubrovnik easily. We drove to Dubrovnik once, but the water taxi at Kuna 80 return is a lovely way to visit. We enjoyed being able to walk down to Cavtat each evening for a meal and try out the lovely restaurants there. The steps were not as bad as expected based on other reviews and there is always the buggy back if you need it (just a ring to reception and it comes immediately!)

The Steak Restaurant in the hotel was a slight disappointment as it was more expensive and not as good quality (or atmosphere as we were the only ones in for most of the meal!) as the restauarants in the town.

Overall, I would recomment the hotel and would visit again as it is in a perfect spot for a Croatian break.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a sea view

We stayed at this hotel for a week in early October, quite expensive but good rooms, food and service, we were very happy to accept an upgraded room. We were surprised that the dress code was not adhered to in the dining room with some people on coach holidays coming in in jeans, shorts, trainers etc. The hotel has stunning views of Cavtat, there was the option of a buggy down to the shore but it would have been helpful to have had a bell or phone at the bottom to call for a lift back up.
Would definitely recommend this hotel but only for mobile visitors. One very nice touch was to find a small birthday cake in our room on returning from Dubrovnik on my husband's birthday, a much appreciated touch. Did not think much of the evening entertainmnt although it was late in the season.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on Reception level overlooking the sea, very quiet

Stayed in this hotel in July and it is the perfect hotel for a relaxing holiday close to Dubrovnik the staff were excellent the room and bed comfortable. The breakfast buffet one of the best iv had. The only negative are the steps, the hotel cant really change where they are located, but it would have to be considered if mobility was an issue. Cavtat is a wonderful place to stay. Cant wait to return!
