“Beautiful Cavtat”

Just back from a really lovely week at the Albatros in Cavtat. Cavtat is the most beatuiful little town with lovely rocky coves to jump into the sea from, lots of nice restaurants, and most amazing views. The Albatros is about a pleasant 15 minute walk from the centre. Like most of the big hotels in the area it is not the most pleasing on the eye, but its nice inside and the rooms are decent and clean. Dodgy entertainment in the evening wasnt our cup of tea so after 2 nights we asked to be moved rooms (which they did no problem at all) from the centre to the far side of Block B, here we could sit in the peace and quiet on our balcony and watch the beautiful sunset.
The food wasnt amazing, but was good enough for us to eat in 4 out of the 7 nights we were there, and was lovely sitting on the terrace and enjoying the views. The other nights there were more than enough choices for eating out - and not spending a ridiculous amount of money. We would espcially recommend the Pacific restaurant in the centre of Cavtat where the waiter, food and value for money was brilliant!

“Fantastic Hotel”

Iberostar Albatros

Jun 24, 2008

My wife and I have just returned from our holiday at this hotel. The location is as stated right on the beach, its a short stroll to the town of Cavtat, takes about 15mins with restaurants, bars and ice cream parlours on route. Once there the walk is well worth it. There are many restaurants by the harbour . Take the steps leading up to the hotel Croatia to view the town and harbour from the hotel bar. A trip to Dubrovnik is a must, cost by boat is 80 Kunar return each, the walk around the wall is 50 Kunar each. The beach at Cavtat is small and pebbly, sun beds cost 20 Kunar each all day. Beach shoes are a must, once in the sea its sand. The hotel has a fantastic large swimming pool with lots of sun beds (no charge) room has fridge (not very cold) and a free of charge safe. Rooms are large, all have sea views. We stayed in 'A' block with the sun on the balcony in the evening, 'B' block has sun on balcony in morning. There's plenty of choice at meals, food very good. All in all a fantastic holiday, we will return one day before it is spoilt by to many tourists. This resort in our opinion would not suit people with walking difficuties, our ages are in our 50's.and very fit. One last comment the sea is very warm. Croatian poeple are very friendly and speak good English.

“Great Hotel”

Iberostar Albatros

We stayed at the Albatros in October for just over a week. The hotel itself is clean, the staff are friendly, and the rooms are a really good size. An indoor and outdoor pool are both free of charge and the health and beauty services are on site but at extra cost. We stayed half-board and the breakfast and evening food choices were dazzling...they cater to every possible need and taste. My son was only 6 months old at the time but was very well cooed over by staff and guests alike. There was children's entertainment but overall I would say the hotel was aimed towards older guests.

The location was great for us. A short walk to the village of Cavtat (about a mile I think) along a winding road with some stunning views. There is a bus service to many other locations in Cavtat and right opposite the hotel there is a regular boat service to Dubrovnik which you can see across the water. Takes about 45 minutes to get there and is well worth a visit. In Cavtat there are local bars and eateries although we only tried a couple due to the excellent hotel food. There is also a bar and a restaurant adjacent to the hotel which were both good when we visited.

I did attempt to learn a little Croatian before we went but almost everyone spoke good English (and German) and, although the attempts at Croatian were much appreciated, it's not necessary to know the language before you go. All menus were printed in several different languages and even the buffet choices in the hotel were labelled in different languages.

Overall, a great experience and we would gladly recommend the hotel and the area to other travellers.

“Disappointed”

Iberostar Albatros

Cavtat is wonderful, but the Albatros is not. The first sign of decline is the large front door mat, which has the hotel name woven in to it. It is so worn that half the name cannot be seen.
The room though was generally good and well maintained. The bed was very comfortable. A lot of people were complaining that the air conditioning was not on, but just opening the windows was fine for us (in May). Breakfast was very good, but the dinners, with lots of kept-warm and over-cooked food, were a different story. The biggest disappointment for us was the drinks fridge and the balcony. The fridge simply did not work, but the reception staff insisted that it did, as it was not meant to cool drinks from room temperature. Yes, that's what they said, on three occasions! We asked what it was for then, but did not get very far, and our travel company's rep was useless. No-one we talked to said their fridges worked. The width of our balcony was the width of my shoe. A lot of the balconies though were much wider, so maybe we were unlucky. As we like to have a cold drink on the balcony, we might be slightly biased towards this hotel. The hotel was put out as 4*, but I would say more like 2*+ for us. We have been back to Cavtat this year and are going back again in 2008. For self catering try the Bacan apartments.
