“Wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

We very much enjoyed our stay in the Hui Feng Inn. It is a traditional old style Chinese hotel and I loved our room and the wooden interior. The room was very spacious and had a little balcony off to the courtyard which were both wonderful places to relax, only minutes away from busy Schuhe Old Town. There was music at night from the bars in the neighbourhood, but with some simple earplugs I wasn't really bothered and had a wndeful sleep. I will definitely be back as I enjoyed the calm and relaxing feeling of this place.

Room Tip: I would definitel go for the room with the little balcony.

We stayed 5 nights in Huifeng Inn in Shuhe Old Town. Initial impressions were good as check in easy and English speaking Jet provided great service during our stay. Our upstairs room was very large with a huge wooden bath plus ensuite shower and toilet, air conditioner and balcony where you could sit looking down on a courtyard. We were surprised though to find no bar fridge which meant we had to keep going out into the street to buy cold drinks. Jet offered the use of hotel fridge however one in the room would have enhanced our stay. Western breakfast was minimal to say the least but I heard the Chinese breakfast was quite good.Hotel staff were attentive and room was cleaned every day however there were holes in some of the towels which was a shock and bedlinen could do with updating particularly considering the tariff charged. The furniture and styling was very quaint and in line with the old world style of a Chinese Inn. The location of the Inn was good in that it is in a lane off the main streets so quiet until night time. Unfortunately as mentioned by other reviewers, the noise from bars and restaurants in close proximity to the Inn meant no sleep until around 12 midnight every night of our stay. We understand this is completely out of the control of the owners and probably many of the other inns and hotels in the area. We chose Shuhe over Old Lijiang Town to try and avoid excessive night noise but the ongoing noise did dampen our enthusiasm for the Inn after 5 nights of interupted sleep. Hours of bass music shaking the timber floors in an upstairs room with no insulation of any kind got a bit wearing and I acknowledge this could be the generation gap showing itself now but neverless this is a problem with the area not only the Inn. Pool looked invisiting however we were a bit concerned about whether any pool filtration/chlorination system was being used however the water appeared very clear.

Room Tip: Other guests suggested the downstairs rooms seemed to hear less of the music at night but I cant com...

We stayed 2 nights in Huifeng Inn which is situated in Shuhe Old Town. Lots of construction going on, so entry is down dusty streets and through an alley. Our luggage was collected at the car park and we followed it to our hotel. An attractive artistic hotel with a crystal clear pool in the first courtyard and another big courtyard where you could relax. Our room was on the ground floor which opened onto the courtyard, which meant it wasn't private and curtains needed to be drawn. This made the room quite dark. The room was big and comfortable with a separate lounge area and a good sized bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower hot.
Breakfast was not included, so our guide(travel company) paid extra. We were offered tea or milk coffee in a packet(yuk!!), fried egg, bread and some jam. Sparse to say the least. Breakfast was requested at a certain time, but no one had started cooking until we arrived.
Good location as it was away from the noise of the bars, but handy for dinner and wandering the streets of the old town. Having read some other reviews, our ground floor room may have been quieter.
Free wi-fi accessible in room and courtyard.
Nice old relaxed feel with the comforts you need.

Room Tip: A room upstairs with more privacy.

This hotel is located in the middle of the pedestrian area of Shuhe Old Town, North of Lijiang.
It is a little bit difficult to find (like all other hotels in Shuhe), but this place is a real gem.
The owner speaks good English and the staff is very friendly and helpfull.
The hotel itself is small, but the rooms are spacious with soft beds and a clean bathroom.
The style is local and very warm. There are many places to sit outdoors to enjoy a cup of tea (or something else.
We really enjoyed our stay here; it was the highlight of our Yunnan trip of two weeks and we certainly will be back!

Room Tip: The twin rooms don't have airco, but temperature drops during the evening and night; we did not...

We stayed in this hotel only one night, however we were amazed by the service provided by the front desk boy - Lio. We had only one afternoon to arrange the transport to Tiger Leaping Gorge for next morning, do laundry, food shopping and see at least a little bit of the old town. Everything was possible thanks to Lio - he got us a good deal for early morning transport to the starting point of the hike, and helped us with all arrangements. In the morning (6am) walked with us to the meeting point with the driver. We left our luggage in the hotel and picked it up after 2 days. Again he welcomed us with a big smile, arranged for us taxi to the airport, and helped us to carry luggage. I do strongly recommended this place - mind you there are two old town in Lijiang, this hotel is located in Shuhe old town around 15 min by car away from Lijiang old town. Shuhe is smaller than Lijiang old town, I found it more stylish and better Western food options.

We (family of 4) stayed here for one night before our departure to Kunming. The first mistake was to stay in Shuhe. This a very commercialised town stripped of its natural character (it was like going to Benidorm in China). With hindsight, we should have stayed in Lijiang old town as this was full of character.
The Inn itself was very average with creaky rooms and low ceilings. Breakfast was just bread and jam, and a boiled egg.
If you are unfortunate enough to stay here, word of caution, do not eat the ice-cream from the nearby "French" cafe as both kids got sick the next morning. Ironic as we ate local food all through the holiday without any problems and this was the first time we deviated.

Choose this place because of such a high rating on Tripadvisor.
Firstly, I would certainly rate Shuhe lower then Lijiang as a place to stay.
It's certainly smaller, but very commercialized and very noisy.
So is Lijiang, but since it's much bigger, It's easier to find quite corner there.
Huifeng Inn is in the middle of very dusty construction zone (perhaps temporary) and very loud disco clubs (permanently).
If you want to go to sleep before 1AM - forget it.
This place is also very cold at night.
They do have some sort of heat blowers, but they are worse then cold.
Finally - this place is unsafe.
The first night we stayed, there was a big fire in the neighborhood.
The stuff member woke us up in the middle of the night saying that we need to evacuate.
Light went off and we have to make it in the darkness from second floor through lots of uneven steps and serious of court yards to the street, where we spent next couple of hours.
There were no support, update or any help from the hotel stuff whatsoever.
They are totally unprepared for this kind of events.
Interiors are nice, but not special or unique for the Lijiang area with many testfully decorated boutique hotels.
Would not recommend
