I stayed here for 3 nights in June and received a good discounted rate by booking through the Banyan Tree reservation office in Singapore directly. Although I had considered staying in Lijiang old town after reviewing the Tripadvisor reviews/rankings (e.g. Zen Garden etc), I am glad that I went with my instincts and stayed at the Banyan Tree. I checked out the Zen Garden and other hotels in Lijiang when I was there, and nothing came close to luxury as did the Banyan Tree. The Banyan Tree Lijiang is the finest hotel in the region and can compete with some of the very best in the World. If your budget allows, stay here. You will not regret it. The hotel is in the countryside a few minutes drive outside of Lijiang town. It is surrounded by mountains and offers amazing views of the Himalayan foothills. We had standard deluxe rooms which were very large and very comfortable. No need to splurge on Pool or Jacuzzi villas unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the hotel. Make sure you request an upstairs room for the views from your large private balcony. The downstairs deluxe rooms have a private garden but views are slightly obstructed by the wall around the garden. The standard of food in the hotel is very good and the grounds are beautifully landscaped, as can be seen on the hotel's website. Unlike hotels in Lijiang old town, taxis can drive right up to the front door, so no need to drag your luggage through the crowded narrow streets of the old town. The service at the Banyan Tree is impeccable and friendly. No detail is overlooked and there are some very nice touches in the rooms… too many to mention here. A gift is left on your pillow each night and fresh fruit and water is replenished daily. If visiting this region, make sure you explore the nearby villages of Beisha and Shuhe, which are far more interesting and authentic than the crowded and touristy (although fun) Lijiang. Also, take a day trip to the Alpine meadows by Weiha lake to see animals (including Yak) grazing and to have lunch with a Naxi family. We had a guide for the whole time we were here… we found him on the Tripadvisor forum… his name is Nong Bu and I recommend him highly. If I ever return to this magical area, I will definitely return to the Banyan Tree.
