Freaking expensive just only for the seats. They said if u want to sit you have to pay like 1000rmb (not including the drinks). The music is ok. The price for drinks also expensive. Bad monkey is BAD

Yes out of 30 tables we have two directly in front of the stage tables that sit 8 people and depending on the season and the band that's playing we some nights have a minimum spend on those two tables, basically to stop an eight person table being occupied by two or three people and that charge does include the food and drinks and look around you will find we are still the cheapest bar and best night out in Dali.

We are very sorry for any confusion if you are in Dali again please ask to speak to the Bar Manager for a free drink on us.

“Drinks, friends and music”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2015

Very cool place to have a drink and hang out with people. Every night or live music or deejay set.
Have a drink and chill. Better stay with drinks and snacks. Not very good for proper food.

“Good atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2015

I was here tonight and, given it's a Wednesday and Dali isn't really known for it's music scene, this place was pretty packed out. When we arrived around 8pm there were very few seats and by about 9 the place was full, which felt very strange; I've been all over China and this was only the second time I saw a full bar.

The bar itself looks a bit shabby (be careful with that word in China) and could do with some paintwork, yet you may refer to this as character. Either way, the locals seemed to love it as they were all drinking and playing games while the (pretty slow & depressing) band played. There was also a table of Chinese-speaking expats, so this place is obviously pretty popular with the Western crowd too.

The drinks were a decent price - Tsingtao & Dali Beer were 15rmb, as was rum & coke. Bailey's was 20rmb but be mindful that this is served more like a shot than a glass of Bailey's.

We ordered food as we arrived and there was a bit of a mix-up. We initially ordered a burger with fries (35rmb) + tomato & egg noodles (15rmb) but, as another review mentioned, the waiter came back saying there was no burger so I opted for a margarita pizza (30rmb) instead. The pizza arrived and was lovely but my girlfriends noodles never showed & we had to ask for them again & wait a further 20mins. She said they tasted ok but the portion was tiny compared to everywhere else we'd ordered noodles.

In terms of location, you'll find this place up a side street from Foreigner Street. If you turn up Foreigner St from Yu'er Rd then you need to turn right when you see the 24hr ICBC, and it's 2mins walk up on the right; I'm sure you'll hear the place during the evening before you see it!!

Overall this was a cool place. It's pretty hip and rather youthful in terms of clientele. I'd go again, maybe order a pizza or convince them to stock up on burgers, but mainly this place is for having a decent beer.

“Good music at times - good place for a few drinks - not much competition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2014

There are few interesting places in Dali for music & a few beers.
Bad Monkey is the best - the food though is only mediocre
There is very little competition - the Dali Old Town is just a crass concrete replica of what it once was

“home away from home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2014

Great place to meet the coolest expats in Dali and some of the hippest tourists ... Great beer great music... Always a fun place to meet. Day time watch the flora and fauna of Dali pass you by. Foreigners be prepared for shouts of "Laowai" and have your picture taken. Service can be slow ( china in general) but they are friendly.
