We stayed here in a twin room for 1 night in August. I had booked the room quite a while in advance and was offered a choice between a twin room and a double as we had arrived just before someone else - do not like to think what would have got if we had arrived later as we had booked a twin and certainly didn't want a double! We were in the upstairs bit - the metal stairs were quite tight with luggage and a bit daunting. The room itself was a nice size with wooden floor and ceiling and it was clean, though we did encounter a cockroach (it didn't appear to be living in our room though, just passing through!) The hostel recommended a cafe in Dali to us - not a great recommendation - food average and they messed up on my friend's meal and refused to give her anything else! Waitress very rude, slammed menu down and stormed off without telling her anything!
The beds were fine and despite looking over the street and being warned it would be a bit noisy, we thought it was pretty quiet compated with some places we'd stayed.
The shower in the morning was freezing - we ran it for 5 mins and it was still freezing so we went to complain. A man came up, ran the taps for another 10 mins and finally we had hot water - stayed hot after that! Breakfast was good, especially the Yunnan coffee, but the 10 mins we were told it would take to arrive turned into 45!
This hostel was cheap and in a great location on the edge of the old town and I would therefore recommend it to backpackers
