“Typical Xinjiang Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

The Grand Turpan Hotel was pretty average for Xinjiang at its price point, as we quickly found out. We negotiated a price of 180 RMB/night, which was more expensive than anywhere else we had stayed in China. The room was a good size, the bathroom dusty and very old/cracked and not particularly clean. The air-conditioning worked well and there was wifi in the lobby which was very handy. Initially we thought there would be wifi in the room itself because we asked to see the room before booking and checked that we had a wifi connection while in there - but after we had registered and paid they took us to another room three floors up with no wifi connection. We were too tired to be bothered arguing over it.

The inclusive Chinese breakfast was quite ordinary and we didn't eat much of it. Staff were so-so, not the friendliest, but they were patient with us non-Chinese or Uighur speakers so we were grateful for that. The location was quite good, near the night markets and the bus station.

the hotel has a nice lobby, we had a clean spacious room and decent breakfast with enough variety. Located next to a new man-made lake so quite a nice walk/run if you want one.
Parking was ample.
Would I stay there again - yes. Enough said :)!

This is another of the typical Chinese 3* hotels you find in the area. The rooms are not super smart, but they're clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful, and there's an outddor cafe/restaurant at the back which is beautifully shaded from the sun by grape vines...heavy with grapes when i visited in August.
There are displays of Uighur dancing in the grounds at night.

As my title says, this hotel is simply acceptable. At the price, however we were not dissapointed. The hotel was quiet, and clean. The
carpet in our room needed to be replaced, and the showere was not the
greatest, but after a long day of sight seeing it met our needs. Be prepared for China's hard beds. We have traveled extensively in China
and find them almost everywhere you go.
