The Grand Turpan Hotel was pretty average for Xinjiang at its price point, as we quickly found out. We negotiated a price of 180 RMB/night, which was more expensive than anywhere else we had stayed in China. The room was a good size, the bathroom dusty and very old/cracked and not particularly clean. The air-conditioning worked well and there was wifi in the lobby which was very handy. Initially we thought there would be wifi in the room itself because we asked to see the room before booking and checked that we had a wifi connection while in there - but after we had registered and paid they took us to another room three floors up with no wifi connection. We were too tired to be bothered arguing over it.
The inclusive Chinese breakfast was quite ordinary and we didn't eat much of it. Staff were so-so, not the friendliest, but they were patient with us non-Chinese or Uighur speakers so we were grateful for that. The location was quite good, near the night markets and the bus station.
