We have just come back from Turpan. This hotel is definately not cheap for what it is. Apparently it was only built 15 years ago we were shocked as it looked like something straight out of the 1960s! The furniture, carpet, bed and towels were downright dirty. Luckily we had silk sleeping bags to keep anything nasty out. The staff told us that the Hong Kong comapany who own it do not spend any money maintaining it - and it showed! Unfortunately there was no other hotel option on this trip. However, apparently there is a new hotel opening up soon (cannot remember the name) but would recommend that one. The only upside was the food at the hotel was FAB - very tasty. They also have a dance show in the evening which we really enjoyed. Turpan is well worth a visit - just don't stay here!

We stayed here in November, and the best thing about the hotel was the price, 150Y per night. The room is pretty basic, no refrigerator or water, only Chinese TV channels. The location is very good, situated in the middle of a block, there is virtually no noise, but it's well situated for exploring the town. The hotel does have internet access. The staff spoke minimal but adequate English. For breakfast (not included in our price; 30Y otherwise), you have a choice of Western (2 fried eggs, toast & jam, a hot dog, small slices of tomato and cucumber, some watermelon, orange drink and coffee) or Chinese (I didn't try it, but it looked like baozi was the primary food). I'd probably spend the money for a nicer hotel next time, but the Oasis was okay, and a good deal for the money.

Turpan in June is hot, hot, hot, but this hotel was cool and refreshing. Lovely lobby, nice shopping within the hotel, great guidebooks, and the cultural show was well worth the money. Dinner was the usual, but breakfast was an extensive buffet with made to order eggs. Great location, so if one feels like a walk after dinner, there's a lovely shaded promenade outside. Overall, lovely experience.

This hotel has ethnic touches that keep it interesting it is also cool which is important in Turpan. We ordered room service and the three of us each had an excellent meal. A great suprise after other hotels. The room was nondescript but clean the bathroom was better and again clean. The staff where friendly and we had good meals in the restaurant. There are also great food stalls just outside the hotel, though we were warned to watch our wallets by our driver if we went there. We arranged a very friendly driver through a person in the foyer.
