“good choice in dandong”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

stayed here for a couple of nights on a recent trip to north korea
have to say the hotel was very welcoming and comfortable
unfortunately no wi-fi in the rooms only in the lobby area, admittedly it was a good connection but it is 2012 now and wi fi should be readily available in all rooms
hotel as others have commented is a little way out of town but there are plenty of taxis available to whisk you into the centre for a fee in the region of a couple of dollars
beds were very comfortable and the showers were the best i had on the trip
decent coffee shop in lobby that doubled up as a bar...prices were reasonable and served a few local brews that in fairness were very good

Room Tip: get a room at the front...you can keep an eye on the north koreans!!!

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your stay and your feedback. Wonderful to know you got a really relaxing and comfy stay here, and the room, the shower, the bed, the pillow and coffee etc. served you well, it is the best we know that our guests are good with us in the hotel, and with your courage we’ll try to get better and better; as refer to hotel location, I shall tell that the hotel is located in the center of high-tech development zone, it takes you only about 10 minutes to the business district and 15 minutes to the Langtou Airport by taxi, what’s more, you can ask hotel bellboy for a taxi to wait for you in advance when you want to go outside, especially when you in a hurry; As to Wi-Fi in all rooms matter, it has been under the test at the moment, and once it is ready in a few days, Wi-Fi in rooms shall come into service, hope it will reach your satisfaction next time you come to our hotel. Thank you again for your feedback and the whole hotel staffs looking forward to seeing you again.

This is a really nice hotel with views over to N. Korea. It is a little way from the centre of town but as taxis are cheap this is not a problem. We were upgraded to a club room which was very pleasant and the club facilities were excellent. Comfortable beds, good airconditioning, tea & coffee etc. Good bathroom with separate shower and plenty of towels. Excellent breakfast. We don't speak any Chinese and had no difficulty whatsoever with any of the staff. Would love to stay here again if ever in Dandong. The hotel is opposite a nice broadwalk where you can stroll along and watch the locals doing their exercises and ball room dancing etc.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for the view.

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your stay and your feedback. The hotel is located in the center of high-tech development zone, and it takes you only about 10 minutes to the business district and 15 minutes to the Langtou Airport by taxi, what’s more, you can ask hotel bellboy for a taxi to wait for you in advance when you want to go outside; the hotel also has a very big parking area which is really a peasant priority compared to all the parking area-scares downtown; and I’d like to recommend to you the Jade Garden specialty—the Fruit tree roast duck, which has a real fantastic fragrance. All in all, thank you very much again for your feedback and the whole hotel staffs looking forward to seeing you again.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza after returning from North Korea and so were in need of a little rest and relaxation, which is just what we got here. The rooms are large, clean and comfy. There is a spa (though a little expensive for china) and a large swimming pool. Two cautions: 1) the staff barely speak any english, so there's not much help in the way of organizing tours or cars, etc. 2) it's a little ways from the city center, but taxis are pretty cheap.

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your stay and your feedback. It was great to hear that you got a very comfortable stay in our hotel; besides the rooms are large and clean, we also have 7 kinds of different function pillows which do help your sleep, wish you could enjoy it next time; as refer to the language problem, good news for you is that we have very good English speaking Duty Manager to help you for daily matters, and you could always find them for 24 hours in the lobby; and about hotel location, we’d like to tell that the hotel is located in the center of high-tech development zone, it takes you only about 10 minutes to the business district and 15 minutes to the Langtou Airport by taxi, what’s more, you can ask hotel bellboy for a taxi to wait for you in advance when you want to go outside, especially when you in a really hurry; but on the other hand, just because the location you could enjoy a fantastic view scene and splendid silent night. All in all, thank you very much again for your feedback and the whole hotel staffs looking forward to seeing you again.

A very nice, modern and spacious hotel.
When traveling from elsewhere in China, you will find this to be a very welcome destination.
Great breakfast selection too.

With particular relevance to travellers not well versed in Mandarin, I would highly recommend getting the name and location written clearly in Mandarin on a piece of paper.
While you can get by with basic English in the hotel itself, stepping outside is a totally different story, which means getting to the hotel can be a real challenge if not prepared!
Your average map provided when reserving your stay does not well represent the scale or location of the hotels, or other attractions in this city with any degree of accuracy. Knowing this, it is best to be prepared with something you can hand to the taxi driver before you reach Dandong as taxi drivers will not speak or read English making your trip to the hotel rather "interesting".
Enjoy your trip.

Room Tip: Try for a river view room so you may see the ferris wheel, boats and North Korea in the distance...

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your stay and your feedback. First of all, it’s an honor to hear your compliments for our hotel and breakfast at the WaterFront, we all very happy that you enjoyed your stay here. By the way, I’d like to recommend to you the Jade Garden specialty—the Fruit tree roast duck, which has a real fantastic fragrance, and hope you could try it next time just for taste’s sake. Secondly, as refer to the language problem, you could write down our hotel name and hand it to the taxi driver, which will certainly give the driver a clear clue as our hotel is the only 5 star IHG hotel in the local; and another suggestion to you is that you could also call 3189999 and tell our staff where you are and hotel may send a car to pick you up. Again thank you so much for your concern and kindly feedback and the whole hotel staffs looking forward to seeing you again.

The hotel locates besides Yalujiang River with a very good landscape. The green river, the island and modern building. You can easily understand the difference between the two countries. a closed one, North Korea, a well developed one, People's Republic of China.
You can also visit the Yalujiang Bridge. It's an evidence of Korean War.
Certainly you may enjoy the local famous seafoods too.
No doubt I will choose this hotel again if I visit Dandong next time.

I decided to have a bit of luxury after 10 days in North Korea and this hotel certainly supplied that. Spotlessly clean, friendly staff and great views if you get a "river view" room.
Breakfast was great with western, korean and chinese food choices.
It is bit of a walk into town but walking through some of the back streets on the way I saw some very different sights!
I may have been expecting too much but i thought some of the staff would have had a better command of english (yes i know I am in a foreign country). When I was there only one lady on reception seemed to have much command of the english language. The compendium in the hotel rooms says, in english, the business centre can help with tickets, travel etc. I never found anyone on the bsiness centre that spoke English. This how ever did not detract from my stay, just be aware that you may struggle if you don't speak Chinese!

Room Tip: try and get a river view room (although I have no idea what the view the other way is like!)

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your stay and your feedback. Great to know that our hotel served you well and reached your satisfaction, and with your encouragement we shall work harder to give our guests much better service. As refer to the language problem, good news for you is that we have very good English speaking Duty Manager to help you for daily matters, and you could always find them for 24 hours in the lobby or just make a call to 7123, hope this information could find you well next time you come to our hotel. Thank you again for your feedback and the whole hotel staffs looking forward to seeing you again.

When in Dandong, this Crowne Plaza is the only place to stay. Do not kid yourself, there have not been any alternatives in town for accommodations if you desire any semblance of Western style service since the hotel opened its doors in 2008. In this part of China, warm hospitality services are uncommon, that is until the staff members get to know you. The employees are bound by fairly strict rules, and it does not help that the GM is no longer a Westerner, but a local with a financial/accounting background (ie penny pinching). The majority owner of the hotel is the local electric power company.

This hotel is in the flood zone (ie outside the flood barrier walls), so in the rare case of flood warnings during the summer season, the entire hotel may be evacuated.

The peking duck in the on-site Chinese restaurant is good.

Your best bet is to talk to Vanessa (if she is the duty manager; she has spent time abroad in Europe), for any situations that may require special handling.

I always request the Deluxe xx09 rooms, they are the corner rooms that affords you the best views at nighttime when the neon lights turn on all over the city and the bathroom is not tiny like the Superior or Executive Floor rooms; the trade-off is that the room is colder in the Winters and hotter in the Summers that the other room types.

Do not have high expectations of the executive lounge, other than it is a nice spot for scenic views of North Korea (there is a telescope up there). If you are not staying on one of the three executive floors, just take the handicap accessible elevator and press 27 and you can get up there for a visit.

Room Tip: Book a Deluxe Room for best nighttime views.
