“Pretty Good Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

Was in town visiting friends for a few days and needed an inexpensive but good place to stay near Southside. This hotel was very well appointed, and the staff were always very friendly. Nice room for a Hampton Inn, though the layout with the closet was kind of wierd. Still, good price for a good stay and near the area I needed. I would recommend it to anyone.

Watch out for the group reservation desk. They will book you for the wrong the night and then charge when you don't show up. Our company will never use Hampton Inn again. Honest business is always a better model than the one these folks use.

This is a fine choice for a weekend stay. The updated rooms are very comfortable even if a little on the small side. The air conditioning system was quiet. Parking was easy. I would say that this is one of the best Hampton Inns I have stayed in even though it is not a new hotel.

Recently stayed while in town for business. I'm guessing this is an older property but you won't know it by the interiors. Appears to have been totally updated. The lobby area is spacious with good work areas if you want to get out of your room. The room was clean and comfortable. I especially liked the built in desk unit - ample electrical outlets for computer and phone charger - comfortable work chair. Bed was comfortable. Convenient to downtown Mountain Brook which is quaint with shops and restaurants. You could walk if you wanted to. Also just a few minutes drive to the 5 Points area which offers several excellent restaurants. Would definetly stay here again.

I stayed at this Hampton Inn on February 21st, 2012 for 3 nights while on business in B'ham. I live in Charlotte now but grew up in B'ham so I know the area very well. For those of you not familiar with the Hampton Inn chain, they are a moderately priced hotel but are great for business or family trips. Most hotels are independently owned, so the service and quality of the hotel can vary. I arrived on 2/21 at around 8:30 am to check-in, not realizing that there may not be any rooms available. However, the gentleman at the front counter was very accommodating and found a room for me so I could leave my luggage in the room and hang up my suits. The hotel was recently refurbished, which means that the rooms now have flat screen TV's and HD, which is nice. The hotel is in a great location, convenient to downtown B'ham and also the Hwy 280 area. In addition, there is a great restaurant called Taziki's right across the parking lot, and a Wendy's next door as well if you get a late-night craving. Breakfast is including with the room, and this hotel had a somewhat upscale offering compared to some Hampton's I've stayed at. The menu differed each morning with some type of eggs (omelets, scrambled, etc.) and a sausage choice. There was some oatmeal already made in a crock pot which was nice. The seating in the dining area left a lot to be desired during the 7:00 to 8:00 am breakfast hour as there were lots of diners and limited seating. Cold bottled water was plentiful which is always a nice touch. The exercise area was very small with only 1 treadmill, which was a problem trying to exercise during the morning hours. Overall I will say this is a nice hotel with a great location and definitely a value for the money.

Room Tip: There are no suites so all the rooms are pretty much the same.

The good: Rooms are clean and newly renovated and attractive with dark wood. There are a number of good restaurants both next to the hotel and less than a mile down the road in Mountain Brook Village. Service is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is the standard Hampton Inn breakfast. Location is extremely convenient to the highway.

The bad: Space is at a premium here -- the rooms are a little cramped, as is the breakfast area downstairs. Rush hour traffic in front of the hotel is pretty brutal and will lead to significant delays if you're arriving or departing at the wrong time.

My wife & I have stayed here several times and think its the cleanest best value in B'ham. Clean rooms, comfortable bed, free news paper, water & good breakfast.
