“The reviews had me worried... but we had NO PROBLEMS!!!”

I booked this hotel online before I read any reviews, needless to say after reading some of them, I was very worried about picking this hotel. But everything was great, we only stayed one night because we were in town for a concert.... it wasn't the Marriott, but I wasn't expecting that anyway!!! Good choice for somewhere to crash after a night downtown!!

“Don't stay here!!! Disgusting and dangerous!”

I was attending a concert downtown and was looking for a place to stay the night so I wouldn't have to drive home that night and I found this place. It looked ok from the pictures and sounded decent so I got a room. Well, please don't make this mistake! I have stayed at many hotels on business and this was awful. First, while we were checking in, the police raided a room and arrested numerous people and had them sitting out on the sidewalk as they searched the room. Then we got in the room and all I can say is that it was gross. The trash can was overflowing with garbage from the last tenant. The tv guide had nasty fungus growing on it and the remote didn't work. The tub was disgusting also. Well, we didn't have much choice and figured we could make it one night. The area around the hotel is teaming with gangs and I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. Well, the next morning we got up and I got in the shower and noticed the white towel had black hairs all on it. I got another towel and it, too, had black hairs on it! That's sick! And these were not all head hair! I used a clean shirt to dry off with. We checked out and went over to look at the breakfast bar. It was NOTHING like the picture! It looked horrible. We turned around and got the hell out of that place and I must say, I have never been so happy to leave a place in my life.

Sleep in your car.
Reservations screwed it up from the get go.
Toilet was broken.
Wallpaper peeling with mildew on the wall behind.
Transient workers owned the pool.

“We Survived”

Days Inn - Birmingham

Aug 3, 2006

Of course price is the first thing we look for when selecting a motel. Sometimes it pays to spend a little more.

This Days Inn was about the cheapest reputable-named motel in Birmingham and it had a pool so it met our top two criteria. We failed to look at the map before booking online to see that the motel was within a mile of Legion Field. Anyone who knows anything abouth Birmingham, Alabama knows that anything around Legion Field is not the nicest of areas. Birmingham Southern College is in this area but they have a big fence and security guards.

Across the street from the motel are a couple of houses---one is burned out. That was the first warning sign. We check in easy enough.

When we open the door to our room, the odor of curry about knocked us off our feet. I like curry, but not as a room freshener.

The room was dingy and the bathroom door would close as long as you lifted up on the door knob as you closed it.

The "pool" was more of a pond as you could not see the bottom. I could not tell that there was any active filtration to the water. I did find a large tablet floating along the edge. I assume this was a chlorine tablet so at least there was some effort to kill parasites that were surely present.

There were some shady characters about and I could go on about the motel but let's just say at least none of us were harmed during our stay.

My two children thought it was great---but they are only seven and four.

Unless you breakdown right in front of the motel, stay somewhere else.
