“Stop over on way to beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

We have been staying at this hotel for the past ten years. We were there over Memorial day the room had new carpets and was very clean. The staff at check in was very friendly and helpful. Ths only thing I was disappointed with was the free breakfast. The selection was minimal and what they did have was not very inviting I remember breakfasts in the past that were topnotch. The hotel seemed very safe and is located near many restaurants.

I've stayed in this hotel 3 times while visiting UAB now and it's had issues every time. The phones were out, the elevators are SCARY, the carpets are terribly worn, the desk was BROKEN and this time there was no more shampoo. When I called the front desk I was told "we don't have that no more". If you can handle the shabbiness of the place, the paper thin walls and the rudeness of the staff, it's not too horribly bad.

I use a discount site for booking and when I realized this is where we had booked, I almost cancelled it. Now I wish I had. It's touted as a 3 star? I give it 2 on its best days. There WILL NOT be a 4th time.

Room Tip: Good luck!

The phones were on the fritz and my bedside phone was dead the whole 4 days I was there - in spite of 3 requests for help. The rear elevator had a dreadful, VERY loud "BANG!" when it started from the first floor. The hall carpets are worn and rippled, dangerous to elderly or handicapped visitors. Worst of all neither of the rear doors to the exterior locked, making access simple, and making guests prime targets for theft or worse. I've written La Quinta and told them I don't think I'll be staying again. At least not until they realize that safety is a major item for their company.

I stayed for four nights at this hotel, and it lacked in some critical areas. The set of exterior doors in the rear of the building, from the parking and the pool were equipped with locks, but would not lock, even at night. Dangerous business. Also, the bedside phone didn't work at all and the other phone had an insistent whistle in it. The rear building elevator was filthy, bunged up, and made an alarming BANG! just before starting up from the ground floor. Hall carpets needed replacing. Other small things included a desk light switch which didn't work, no room coffee left for Sunday AM and the microwave door stuck. To their credit, the phone guys were there working on the system the day I left (I made three complaints before I heard back from anyone). Positives are, a pleasant staff eager to please, a clean room and a decent bed with little noise or bother from outdoors or indoors. Needs some TLC.

Room Tip: Always inform the clerk that you want to check the room before you pay for it, then go take a look...

My room was not made 2x on my 10 day stay. Housekeeping did not put back the required things back on a daily basis such as iron & board( which stayed out the entire stay), various trash was not picked up in the room. I also made various noise complaints. The management staff was unapologetic. The Asst. GM told me he would reduce my rate and before checking out caught amnessia. To make matters worse there were prostitutes soliciting me on various days in the hotel.

This hotel like a lot of La Quintas looks like it needs a facelift. Elevators and halways are a little banged up in areas, but rooms are clean. Staff is helpful! Breakfast is weak, you can get a boiled egg, but no scrambled eggs or sausage. The breakfast made me lower my rating by 1 star. Overall, it's a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Book a King Room, the bed is superior to the twin beds.
