My family and I stopped here on our way to Atlanta- I saw tickets on groupon and would recommend everyone check there to see if that deal was available. I believe our tickets were $6 each- a steal! We were driving from home to Atlanta, which is about a 6.5 or 7 hour drive, and I thought Birmingham would be a good place to stop, eat lunch, and see something. I am SO GLAD we did. We spent 3 hours in the museum (including eating lunch there). There are 4 floors to see, though we spent the most time on the first floor. There are all kinds of hands on exhibits with water, bubbles, electricity, leverage, I could go on and on... and they are all working. Having worked in a museum which caters to kids for years, I understand about wear and tear- and none showed at McWane. There wasn't a thing there that we did not find interesting and spend some time looking at. Our children are ages 15 and 5, so finding things that interest both age groups can be a challenge, but McWane was perfect. The aquarium floor was really neat, and the kids enjoyed touching sharks and looking at the other marine life. Lastly- the food court hit the spot- the kids and I had pizza hut (individual sized pizza, a couple orders of breadsticks with sauce) and my husband had subway. Great that we could eat there and didn't have to pull off the interstate again.
