My wife and I took a trip to Birmingham because we've been on a zoo kick of late and we wanted to see what this zoo was like. It was also the only place withng a 4 hr drive that wasn't getting rain in biblical proportions, but that's neither here nor there. In a word...
great. We were very happy we went, even though the day was a bit gloomy. The zoo isn't large, but has many open displays where you can get up close with the animals. The lorikeets were fun and I was used as a roosting perch for a bit. Some of the exhibits are smaller than you'd expect, but their well designed and the animals seem to be happy. The cats, especially tigers, were very active and seemed as interested in us as we were in them. The alligator exhibit was really great, even though only one gator was there. It looked like a miniature swamp with a deck overlooking it while most alligator exhibits in zoos are just large aquariums. Lots of birds and great cats, plus some giraffes that seemed to like posing for us made our trip alot of fun. We've been to a couple of better zoos, but this zoo...especially for its size, was really worth the trip. I'd advise anyone travelling to the Birmingham area to take a gander.
