Perhaps I've reached the age where my memory of things as they were overpowers the experience of the moment, but my latest venture to Surin West was less than it ever has been before. I remember when it first opened and you had to wait hours for a table. Everyone was there, and every dish was amazing. Yes, the food was still pretty good. Several of my friends ventured from their standard selections and we all agreed there were new favorites. A new beef noodle dish was especially good. However, where was the stellar service? The white tablecloths? REAL napkins? Apparently there has been a decision to make this place less "fancy" for some reason, and me no like. With the price point of the food, and especially the cost of those martinis, it is not unreasonable to expect things should be at their former level. As always, I still got my Thai BBQ chicken, but it was just ok.
In the end, there is still good food to be had. And if you sit by the front window there is still a fun ambiance. However, this particular visitor who once named this the "best place ever" is currently on the market for a new cool place to dine on a Friday night.
