I visited this place on 18th oct 2013. the weather was good, clear sky and not so cold. The grottoes and niches of Longmen contain the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art of the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). These works, entirely devoted to the Buddhist religion, represent the high point of Chinese stone carving. But sadly to say that most of this sculptures faces were destroyed. I went in the morning and it was not so crowded. I recommend that you should visit this place when you are in louyang, Don't give this a miss. I also recommend you to take a 20 mins cruise along the river and take a panoramic view of this magnificent sites. Don't forget to bring along your camera.
