5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014 via mobile

Loved staying here and hope to visit again some day. It just had a feel about it that made us want to relax and enjoy the fresh air and scenery. I would pick this hotel and yangshuo generally as a destination in itself.

Checked in only 1 night at this hotel and was blown away by the deco of the hotel. Lovely deco depicting old village in china yet its very clean. We booked a twin room but was upgraded to a family suite which was fantastic and spacious. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful.
The views in the room was absolutely spectacular. The beds were comfortable and bathroom clean and with hot water.
Breakfast was good except its quite expensive for China standard, there is also free shuttle service to downtown , only bad thing is that coming back you have to catch a taxi that cost RMB 50 back to hotel as the shuttle van only waits for an hour which is not enough as the west street is a great place for shopping.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms at the top floor, the balcony have spectacular views.

Thank you, Yangshuo Tea Cozy for a memorable holiday. The accommodation was lovely and our hosts, Richard, Suzie and the whole team made our stay very special. The rooms had balconies overlooking rice farms and the Karst mountains. The food was outstanding and the beds were very comfortable. The showers were excellent. A special thank you to Richard, who helped us to plan our 3 days/4 nights stay and organised a driver for us to explore the area.

This is a gem of a hotel. We spent 3 nights here, taking a family room which is actually 2 rooms with a connecting door. One room had a double bed and the other 2 singles. The rooms are tastefully decorated and beds and pillows are so comfortable. Great to come back and relax after a tired day out. Our only complain about these 'family rooms' is that there is only 1 toilet and that is quite a challenge with the four of us. From our 2nd floor balcony, we could see the lovely karst mountains. The freshly made breakfast was wonderful, we had so much to eat (our entire stay including hotels, breakfast, 1 night stay at the Longji Rice fields, sightseeing and activities with Li River Show was organized by Richard, the owner of Tea Cozy) . We need not have to worry about anything except to enjoy ourselves. We did whatever we wanted to do on our trip to Yangshuo. I must mention Amy, who I truly believe is an asset to Tea Cozy. She was very friendly and helpful and always had a smile whenever we see her. With regards to the activities, the bicycle ride through the rice fields was enchanting and would have been more so if we hadn't gone in June when the sun is scorching. I was lucky to capture a picture of the rice field with the farmer ploughing his land with his ox - it was so green and beautiful. The ride on the bamboo raft was a welcome after cycling in the hot sun. We could lay back and enjoy the karst mountains while dipping our feet in the cool, green waters of the stream. I was not so impressed with the Li River show. The fact that it was all in Mandarin was not so much of a problem but the acoustics was terrible. When there were group performances on the front stage, we could hardly hear anything and I saw people (even local chinese) talking among themselves. Nonetheless, it was a spectacular display of lights on the river but for me, it was not as impressive as some people had found it. I caught my daughters (teenagers) looking at their watches several times. There were parts of the show which was interesting but it was not a show that had my full attention the entire time. On hindsight, I would have given that a miss. Back to Tea Cozy, if I ever returned to Yangshuo, I would definitely stay at Tea Cozy again. However, I do have 2 little complain (which I must add, did not spoil my stay there). The ironing board I asked for was terrible. There were holes everywhere and when I ironed my clothes, it ended up stuck with the bits and pieces of the inside of the board, which was most unpleasant. Also on our transfer to the airport, the driver decided to take the country road instead of the highway to save himself the toll charges and we ended up spending almost half an hour more than we would have had we used the highway. The journey through the local road was worrying as we had a flight to catch. But thankfully, we did not miss our plane.

There is nothing negative or constructive to say about the Tea Cozy hotel. After 4 nights in Beijing, and 3 in Xi'an, we were ready for some clean air and quieter venues. The beauty about this hotel is the location. It's not in Yangshuo which is overrun with tourists, hotels, people trying to sell you junk and bad air. This is the opposite. There are still people at the water wanting you to buy a boat ride, but they're not nearly as aggressive. The hotel itself is lovely. We chose an upgraded room to a suite which is not much more than a standard room but it has a bedroom and a sitting room with a large balcony that overlooks the karst mountains. It was lovely. Everything was clean, and we had everything we needed including free water, pop and a few chocolate bars/cookies to buy in the room. The food was outstanding! Fresh, homemade and generous portions. The best part of our 3 nights at this hotel was Amy. She is the manager of the hotel - tons of energy, speaks excellent English and goes above and beyond to help, while working 10-12 hour days. She never stops! Ask her if you can join her on her morning jog - it was the best part of my trip. I got to see China "sleeping" - it was serene and beautiful. Just be prepared to sweat a lot with the humidity! Amy and her team also went above and beyond when they found out it was my Mum's birthday they pre-arranged a cake and sang happy birthday when we returned from the light show. Very, very thoughtful. Thank you! We were very pleased with this hotel, and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Pay for the upgrade!

We loved it here. Simply pulling up to it is exciting. It's sooooo cute and charming and the staff is amazing. Our room was spacious and had the best air conditioner and it was the most comfortable bed and pillows ever. We highly suggest staying here. We loved it.

This is a great place to stay if you want to spend time in the Yangshuo area. It is a 10 minute drive outside of town so it is easy to leave the touristy madness behind. The setting, amongst the farmers' fields with classic karst formations/hills nearby, is awesome. Our room was clean, spacious, and tastefully decorated. Definitely not your cookie-cutter hotel. Staff were friendly, helpful, attentive, and spoke good English.
They run a free shuttle into the city at 9 am, 1 pm, and 5 pm and back from the city at 10 am, 2 pm, and 6 pm.
Restaurant has an excellent choice of western, fusion, and Chinese dishes including farm-fresh produce and vegetarian fare at reasonable prices. The taro chips were yummy.
Highly recommended.
