“Perfect mini getaway location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

I can't say enough about how great Moondance was. Service was excellent (those of you in China will know how hard that is to find), prices are extremely reasonable, location is superb, rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the view from the inn itself could keep you content if you stayed only there the entire time.

The inn is walking distance to major attractions such as Moon Hill, Buddha Water Caves/Mud baths. It is far off the highway and well away from the madness of the man tourist strip- West Street. A 30-40 RMB taxi ride gets you to West Street, but you won't want to be there long.

You feel much more like you're staying at a country home than in a town when you stay here- the view out your window or from your private balcony is of mountains, rice fields, and a small neighboring village, nothing else.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony to enjoy the view!

We stayed for 6 nights in the hotel. All the rooms have individual designs, so the hotel has a really unique feel. The staff are very friendly, very helpful and quite informal, which helps the atmosphere of comfort and warmth. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are fantastic, and the balconies are a great addition. The food is good, with a good breakfast provided. The owners are often around, and are informative and helpful, and they plan to open a fresh water pool soon, which will be fantastic for the ground floor rooms which open into it. Well recommended, would happily stay again.

We decided hands down that this was our favourite hotel stay during our 3 week trip.

The resort is located in Fenglou Village facing the Jinbao River. Fenglou appears on all the tourist maps you get (in Chinese so you should get it circled). It is a 30 rmb taxi ride into Yangshuo, although I can't understand why you would want to - if you are going to Yangshuo for the karst scenery, cycling, to relax and soak up some rural culture, this is definitely the place to go. We were only in Yangshuo town once after our rAft ride and had no desire to see it again when we could enjoy the surrounding countryside at our hotel.

Service is impeccable. In fact, I felt slightly ashamed afterwards that I gave up trying to speak mandarin as the staff's English were all good! They were lovely people and went out of their way to arrange things to make our trip more enjoyable and easier for us. They seem to have a good network of contacts such as taxi drivers.

We were very happy with the facilities. Free wifi is provided. What was outstanding was the commitment to keep prices reasonable when potentially, since you have to travel into Yangshuo and the convenient option being to dine there, could try to overcharge. Food was delicious (we ate there every night) and drinks very reasonable. Bike hire is free!

We were in room 303 - Starry Night which was perfect. The bathtub really is something else! All the rooms are named after songs (Stairway to Heaven, Moondance, Eternal Flame...) which was a nice touch! I meant to ask Roland, but what song is Starry Night? Isn't it called "Vincent"?

We will be back! Hopefully without the floods...!

Haha, I guess we'll have to ask Mr McLean himself. But yes, the song's official name is Vincent. However we couldn't really find a way to relate to Van Gogh, but with the bath tub in the conservatory (glass roof) from which you can see the stars directly, the song name McLean has put between brackets works better for suite 303.

We would like to thank you for your delicate review and we are happy that you enjoyed the scenic route in. You many, most locals don't even know about this 'secret' road, so you definitely went off the beaten track.

All the best!

We had a remarkable stay here at the Moondance, especially the phenomenal food, cute rooms, and most importantly the amazing service. I would recommend this hotel to anyone no matter their situation.

We stayed at Moondance Boutique Resort for three nights in April and really enjoyed our stay there. Lovely hotel, modern amenities, gorgeous surrounds. It is away from town but easy enough bicycle ride away and you can also get a taxi there very easily. The hotel itself provided very good quality bicycles and we managed to get to all the tourist sites on these. The hotel staff are really helpful and booked a bamboo raft trip for us. Highlight of our three weeks in China, thanks Lyn and Roland for making our stay there so enjoyable.

Everything was perfect at this hotel!

The staff and owner were very nice and helpful. The breakfast was delicious, although it took a while to arrive, and the bacon was literally the best I've ever had in my entire life. The dogs are very cute, especially Coffee!! He's so sweet.

The location is 30 minutes outside of Yangshuo, so if you are only in Yangshuo for a day, it's probably best not to stay here. For anyone staying longer, this place is a perfect escape from hectic Yangshuo.

The rooms were beautiful and spacious, with two queen beds and a balcony for a very reasonable price, and we only have one adult and two kids in our family, so the room was more than enough.

All in all, fantastic little retreat with a beautiful setting right on the river with the Karst mountains looming overhead!

A lovely little hideaway among vegetable farms and rice fields, with gorgeous views of the karsts and river out front - and what a welcome escape from the mad circus that Yangshuo has now become. Very pleasant and helpful staff, who provided excellent tips on cycling/hiking itineraries. I highly recommend taking the walk further into Fenglou, through the vegetable farms to Yulong river - stunning scenery, and I had the trail all to myself.

Room Tip: I stayed in a Bed of Roses, which had a lovely view of the river, vegetable plots and the karsts; I...
