2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

If you decide to come here you will be the only tourist around. The village has 4 houses that make the big and small fans.At the far end of the village is the jetty. You will feel out of place here.

“Market day and paintings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

We went to Fuli by car after our river rafting trip on the Li river. We made sure it was market day so we could explore the local market. it was interesting walking the rows of stalls. Bought some pomegranates and big green chillis. We also made a trip to the Peng Family Painting Factory which I had read on tripadvisor. There were so many paintings to choose from and we spent a bit of time there. Apparently all the paintings were done by members of the family. Bought five large ones for RMB1900. An enjoyable day.

“A nice outing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

The 5 of us went on a market day. We went to the Yangshuo bus station and ended up taking a whole van / mini-bus for RMB30. On the return trip, we shared with 9 other people and paid RMB3 each.

We were dropped off along the main road where it looked quite new and ordinary. Had to walk several hundred metres towards the river to get to the "ancient town". There was a temple by the river dedicated to Ma Tzu, goddess of the sea. Next to it was a surprisingly modern toilet with auto-sensor flush and taps! Guess they expect tourists who mostly arrive by boat. Only 1 main street in the old town with shops selling antiques, paintings, fans and other souvenirs for tourists. However, the walk to it and back was interesting too and provided many photo opportunities.

We dropped by the market and bought some fruits - oranges and pomegranates. The latter were juicy and quite sweet.

“some nice moments out of main street”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

the village of Fuli on the Li river downstream from Yangshuo catches our attention. It is described has having narrow cobblestone streets with worthwhile temples. Many old house have been covered with ugly bricks. The bank of the river is encumbered by what seems to be a gravel factory?. We do come across a lonely temple and a lovely corner of the village away from the tourist trade. The town specializes in hand painted fans and scrolls. some are very nice. let yourself be tempted.

“Nothing like I've seen before”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

For this one, I'll keep to bullet points of what we saw:

* random guy selling surgical gloves, who blew one up like a balloon for all to see
* big open-air market full of household/clothing items/food -- very crowded and a bit dirty
* big open food area with food stalls, many of which are best for the adventurous type! We ended up having rice noodles, and no one got sick
* saw a dentist office, which was basically one chair in a small, not-too-sanitary room
* found some FAN MAKERS, which was cool - some hand painted
* walked up and down some back streets and alleys, which seemed pretty local. If for nothing, it was a glimpse into people's neighborhoods.
