“Very interesting place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Great hotel with amazing views although the breakfast was downright strange. There was a huge table of cakes and desserts but along with vegetables and full asian breakfast really didnt blow up my frock. Not even eggs :( We had dinner in the restaurant and the beautiful hostess Kim made our meal fantastic. She explained everything to us and was so kind we enjoyed her company immensely. She is truly an asset to this hotel.Just around the corner is a beautiful street selling all kinds of souveniers, food, beer, wine snack etc. The restaurant across the the road had a variety of snakes in cages ready to go...:( Will definitely go back one day as there is so much to see.

We stayed just two nights here and that was enough.
One night we were woken by other customers shouting down the corridor and the other we needed to leave at 4am. The beds were comfortable enough but quite 'solid!'
Breakfast was reasonable but the range and quality of the offerings were not as good as other places we stayed in our trip.

What goes for this hotel is the location is excellent location just 500m from the main street, West Street.

Overall, a decent place to stay, comfortable and clean, but not of 5-star quality by any stretch.

Well, this hotel is in a good location, next the river and a short walk from all the shops/restaurants etc for tourists, and it has a 5 star appearance especially in the lobby area. The bedroom was large in a quiet area with a king size bed. BUT on testing we found the carpet to be softer on our bodies than the mattress. I have experienced some hard mattresses - old style military horse-hair types to those in the outback - but this mattress was the winner in the hardness stakes. We made it slightly better by getting 5 doonas to put on top (which we had a little trouble getting mainly because the staff could not understand the problem). So if you have been advised to have a firm mattress, this is the place. Breakfast was OK and the service - considering the laguage difficulties - was also OK except when we were checking out and we had to wait while they checked the room with the reason given "in case you stole something". Probably agree with commentr - there must be other better places to stay.

Room Tip: Check the mattress.

Green Lotus Hotel: Wow! We were ‘blown-over’ by this hotel. We read (over & over) all the reviews on this hotel prior to booking and were reserved on our expectations. We don’t know what some of the people were talking about with any negative slants. First of all, this is not Beijing, Shanghai or any major city; hotels are not quite the same. At least that was our theory prior to arrival. In reality this hotel is fantastic. Rooms: they were lovely, clean & well appointed! We booked a wonderful room, facing a courtyard with a water view (can’t remember the specific name, perhaps ‘Executive Deluxe’). There is another room catagory that is directly on the water front at a higher price. Our room had a balcony. We studied the photos and wondered if they had a balcony we could sit, we actually called them to inquire. The other locations, of our China visit, were all in cities and the hotels had no access to the outdoors. We really wanted a balcony on this stop. It seems the Chinese do not SIT on balconies; they hang their clothes & walk out on them. The balconies do not have any chairs, but they are definitely large enough to accommodate them. We just made our request, with the one of the MANY front desk employees, and by magic chairs appeared. Views: Can’t imagine a hotel with the view better than this one. The hotel is on the Li River, next to the motorized raft boats, and faces the main bridge of the area. We purchased some wine, at the grocery store, and enjoyed the amazing views from the hotels waterfront boardwalk. Location: Already mentioned the views; however it is only a pleasant ten minute walk to West Street where one can eat & shop to their hearts content. Staff: The personnel at this hotel will accommodate your each and every request. They are lovely! Food: We never ate at the hotel. The interesting restaurants on West Street called our name. Missing: They have a fantastic boardwalk on the water front. It was a shame we had to sit on a rustic ledge to watch the setting sun instead of an umbrella table. We think the Chinese do not understand the value of a water-front table and the amazing setting they have available.

Room Tip: You want to be on the water side; with a balcony. The river activity will entertain!

My wife and myself took a tour with a tour guide. He checked us in and interfaced with all hotel personnel. Our room was a river view room that was very picturesque. The bed was the largest king size bed we have ever seen. The room was large and the bathroom was modern. The buffet breakfast was good except for the fact that the food was luke warm. I find this to be a problem throughout our stay in China.

It is not a five star room but I'm sure the Ministry of Tourism can justify it through a complex algorthyim that only they understand. Remember, you are in China!!!

While in the city I highly recommend the show: "Impression Liusanjie." It is expensive but well worth it. Get the second cheapest tickets. It's a significant upgrade both in seats and viewing.

The room we were first allocated was "small" and bed was like concrete. Upon raising a complaint we were allocated a slightly better room. This hotel is definitely not what it purports to be. Certainly not 5 Star but rather 3 and a half at best. The breakfast was OK. No decent wine to choose for a quiet drink after a busy day sight seeing.

Shocking beds and service was the order of the day. We inspected three rooms before accepting one having then realised that all the beds are bad. Many, many mistakes buy the staff were too numerable to count although we left a list of 34 suggestions for the General Manager on checking out. The food was atrocious (regional Chinese view of western food done badly). I am afraid that there is nothing I can recommend about this hotel as a 5 star. We learned from the staff during our stay that the General Manager had recently visited Beijing to "negotiate" their 5 star rating. Just awful!! I would rate this hotel three star at best

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else although Yangshuo has very little to offer in the way of accommodation that coul...
