“A decent place to rest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The room was big with decent size of LCD TV and bed. The toilet in the room was with semi- transparent glass, it may not so suitable to share room with other person other than your couples. The room which I stay in was at 15th floor and it pretty quiet. The service provide by staff at the check-in was good and efficient but the staff at the restaurant needed to be improved, they slow in attending to customer and cleaning up the table for next customer and refill the foods. You will enjoy the food if you like Chaozhou taste!
The hotel provide a decent speed on the wifi internet at the lobby area, if they can provide the same in the room will be great because not everyone will bring their laptop when travel (the room do have cable to access to LAN)
You can also find alot of local foods at the street nearby the hotel. The transport maybe a problem the hotel guess as I don't many taxi pass-by the area.

Room Tip: Avoid staying in 9 and 10 floor because the KTV was allocated in 5 to 8 floor, you may faced some no...

We stayed 2 nights on business trip. Lobby is tempting and this one of very few good points in the hotel. Room was big, a huge LCD on the wall, solid beds, accaptable clean but smelly. Toilet chocked on the first day and the service woman told us better not to use paper!!! Internet LAN was OK but the desk I could seat at was located in front of A/C so either computer work or A/C on.
Breakfast were dramatic. They serve it till 10 but when we get downstairs at 9.40 there were almost nothing left to select. All tables showed what a previous guest had for breakfast. Never agan.

This was our second stay in 12 months and there appears to be zero maintenance on what was already a run down hotel. The entrance lobby is large and has shiny marble floors, but the rooms are getting really sordid and smelly, as are the corridors. The non smoking floors/rooms are nothing of the sort and in the many rooms we have seen, there are cigarette burns in all the carpets. The rooms and windows are not clean and some rooms don't have openable windows which really are essential in these circumstances! The breakfast is all Chinese except for toast and some very dried up fruit. They don't clean the tables until the end of the sitting, so while they might remove plates, expect to find fish bones, meat bones etc. at your table. Fortunately there is a bakery and fruit stall round the corner.

Location is convenient.

Only one person seems to speak any English. Avoid rooms on the lower floors as they will be near the late night KTV (karaoke) bar.

Room Tip: Higher floor and openable windows

Just stayed there for a night on a business trip. Check-in takes quite some time, but good that they have some staff who speak at least basic English. Stayed at one of the rooms on what they call 'Executive floor' from 16-18th floor. As even those are pretty cheap, highly recommend to invest the money for this upgrade.

Rooms are of ok size and decently furnished. Wired LAN and with all amenities that you need. Beds are quite hard, but at least the pillows are decent. The room had a bit of a smell, which was prevalent in other areas of the hotel too, but still bearable. The carpet felt somewhat wet. Didn't feel really comfortable walking on it without socks.

Breakfast offers an ok choice for Chinese, but other than toast and fried eggs nothing for Western people that you feel like eating in the morning.

All in all ok to spend a night or two, but not a place where you would like to stay longer. Unfortunately there are no better options in Chaozhou...

I stayed here by joining the tour for two nights. The location is very good in Chaozhou. The services were average. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, with free LAN cable internet. Everything were in medium average. However, it was poor for breakfast. The foods could not be refilled in time cause only one man was doing the cooking. In most of the times, you could not get fruits. No vegetable salads were available and no good.

Stayed at room 1120 during my stay. It's spacious, with internet access, free two small complimentary bottled water, almost complete toiletries, at least 30 cable channels, safety deposit box, extra comforter, a small ref, all too common Chinese hard mattress.
Needs improvement on the following: 1) position of lavatory is way too low; a bit difficult to bend all the time. Taller people will find this extremely uncomfortable. 2) Selection of food during breakfast is sufficient but they have to replenish them on time. It's not acceptable that we were left with only two to three selections out of about 12 selections. Even the juice dispenser was empty at one point for a long time. And this happened for three days of my five days stay. 3) internet connection needs improvement. Access was intermittent for at least two days. 4) Maintenance has to constantly check any problem in a room. In our case, our wardrobe cabinet doors were misaligned, light switches were confusing, On and off switches were not uniform. 5) Strictly enforce no smoking inside the hotel. Visitors smoke in the lobby, in the breakfast area, in the elevator.
Overall, this hotel is better than the one I previously stayed-in in Chaozhou. The receptionists were attentive, price is not that expensive, and location is not that bad. Just keep in mind that this is not a five-star hotel so lower your expectations.

I travel to Chaozhou twice a year for the last 15 years. The Guest House and Chaozhou hotel are tolerable but this is gross. Dirty and breaking down. Breakfast don't- they do not clean the tables from the people before. Overall Chaozhou seems to be getting worse and it is almost worth staying at Meritus in shantou and driving the 45 minutes
