The hotel overlooks the river and is at the end of tunxi 'old street' which although packed with shops selling tourist odds and ends, is really atmospheric especially in the late evening as the crowds thin out. The room we stayed in was simple but pristine with beautiful traditional chinese furniture. The breakfast is a fixed menu with tasty dumplings and a tea egg!

The staff spoke excellent english and were very helpful especially with trip advice. The hotel offers tours to the various vilages and sites in the area. However, they did not have english speaking guides when we were visiting so we made our own way on public transport which was surprisingly easy.

The hotel is a great place to stop off on the way to or from Huangshan mountain - the hotel will look after your suitcases so you can take a smaller overnight pack up the mountain with you.

Best experience in China! The English speaking receptionist was very sweet and kind. Rooms comfy and clean. Reliable and plentiful breakfast included. The hotel driver is awsome. We packed in a day trip to three of the nearby historic villages including Hongcun, and two smaller, much less visited non-UNESCO villages (one had an ancestral hall where some of Crouching Tiger was filmed, the other was built by eight brothers and had houses with interconnecting courtyards.) Ended the day at a centuries old Taoist shrine where inscriptions are carved into the red sandstone hillside. Peaceful and quiet walk with good views.
No price haggling at this hotel, just good rates for everything! You can put yourself at ease here. A bit less than $40 a night for double with two beds. We stayed three nights.
Really good foot and body massages from the place around the corner on the old street.

My husband and I, and another couple stayed here for two nights. It was 300 rmb (about $40 US) for a double room and includes a Chinese breakfast. It's a good place for the price and location.

Tunxi is a great location as a base to explore nearby ancient towns of Xidi and Hongcun. Qiyun Shan (Mountain) is also nearby - it's a mountainous area of red sandstone rock that is home to Taoists temples and monks.

The hotel location is right outside the Old Street shopping street. The street is filled with vendors selling various knick knacks, teapots, and paintings. At the end of the street there is a tea shop with an artist who does some beautiful paintings of Huangshan. To the left of the shop is the Western cafe Ying Yang (44 LaoJie). They have pizza, crepes and Erdinger beer there. A good find when you need a break from Chinese food. They had a computer there with free internet, too. Owner was very friendly. He even agreed to open early one day so we could eat breakfast before heading out of town.

The hotel itself is basic (nicely decorated in a simple traditional Chinese style) and overall, the room was clean. There is an AC unit in the room. The beds have memory foam, which was comfortable. We did end up buying rubber slippers on Old Street for the shower though because the floor looked a little grimy. (They had a rubber mat that you can put down, too.) The staff was friendly, but their English is limited. Sunny can help you with tours if you need to find one.

This is a great little hotel that offers a lot for very little. We paid 300 yuen (around $45) per night for a double room and we were very impressed with what we got, ie a clean, comfortable room with A/C, TV, clean bathroom, and even free in-room internet. Remember that this is not a 5 star hotel, so don't be expecting a Hilton, but having said that, the overall value is amazing and you get a lot for a little.

The location of the hotel is great. It's central and right on the edge of the old town district which is fantastic to explore. I think this is about the best location possible in Tunxi.

There are a couple of small issues with the hotel that need to be mentioned. First of all, the front-facing rooms are very loud and difficult to sleep in, so make sure you ask for a back-facing room. Secondly, we had difficulty at check in. We had a reservation for 4 nights, but because of a government meeting they sort of cancelled our last night without letting us know. After some negotiation with the manager, the chose to honor the initial reservation, which is good for them because otherwise this would have been a 1-star review. Finally, one morning at 6am the cleaning lady woke us up by banging on the door (even though the "do not disturb" was on), and when we opened the door she just laughed and walked away. I still don't know what that was all about, but it shouldn't have happened.

Overall, this is a great basic hotel with unbeatable value. Despite a couple issues mentioned above, I would stay here again.

This is truly the best place to stay in Tunxi. The location was fantastic! It's right at the beginning of the Old Street of Tunxi which has lots of character and charm. We spent a few hours just strolling down the Old Street and enjoyed seeing all the people and shopping too of course.

A must eat place: on the same street at the end of Old Street (other end) and where the modern shops start. MeiShi RenJian. Fantastic! There are 2 next door to one another. You want to go to the one with the open kitchen below w/dishes you can select on your own. It was definitely where all the Chinese tourists go, and the food and service were great.

The hotel room was great too. The heater was a main perk seeing as though we were frozen from the outside. We were heated through the night - ah.. and the beds were especially cozy. They had Memory Foam pillows AND mattresses. Awesome. We were in Room 302 and loved it. Free water too (per visit? Not sure).

If we were to go back to Huangshan (Yellow Mtn), we would definitely stay there again. The staff were friendly and helpful. Note that the public spaces are chilly in the winter but that didn't deter us.

  • Liked — Location, location!
  • Disliked — the breakfast.. right at the entrance of the hotel (very chilly) and the food wasn't that great.

It was meant to be a one night stay that turned into 3 extra days.
Best hotel we discovered during a China wide vacation in terms of value, cleanliness and friendly staff. They even take credit cards! It is better than the Novotel in Beijing albeit not as plush but it had all the basics sorted.

We paid 240 RMB per room and this included a simple but delicous breakfast consisting of steam buns, Chinese porridge with pickle vegetables and coffee. The onsite restaurant serves pretty decent lunch and dinner too. But you should also try MeiShi RenJia restaurant just at the other end of Old Street.

The guestrooms did not have a good view but were immaculately furnished - even had fluffy bathrobes and bathroom scales to weigh your luggage. The lobby was charming and decorated in traditional Hui style. The Old street itself is the main attraction of Tunxi and had lots of lovely Ming era shops selling calligraphy souvenirs and tea.

  • Liked — Fantastic staff and immaculately clean rooms at good prices
  • Disliked — Nothing - loved it all!
