It was a 5 hour coach ride from Shanghai, the local guide mentioned an express train should be in place by 2014 so cutting the travelby half the time perhaps. First night was spent at the foot of the mountian, and 2 N at the mountian top-- hotels a bit pricey- average cost from $80-150 easy.
We started off with a 9 minute cable car up the mountian (RMB 80), Entrance fee to National Park RMB240, our guide took us via the scenic route(11km) 4hours, hired porters for our backpacks- cost form RMB80-180, we were lucky and had good weather on Day 01 during our ascent up the mountain, Stunning views, no wonder this place has inspired genertions of painters/artist. We stayed at Best Western Spa resort onthe lower level (US$100) and 2N at Xihai ($80-140) a lovely 5star & and older 4 star hotel wing. 2N was just right because Day 2 at the top of the mountain was a NO View to due heavy fog & clouds-Day 3 , for the descent was only a 2km wlk to the other cable car station (RMB 80). Yes I will visit again--best time is August/September/October 3rd & 4th week, skip first 2 weeks of October when the whole China is on holiday mode.
