“Las Majadas de Colchagua, Santa Cruz Chile, worth a stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Arriving at one a clock in the morning being welcomed by the sweetest of persons serving us a excellent meal and great wine from the Bisguertt estate, that was a great start of our stay at this little paradise on earth. Next morning we found out. Lovely grounds, a fantastic interior with old furniture and paintings. Long pool, great food, great wine and service in top. We enjoyed it and would love to go back.

We stayed here only one night. The place is awesome: luxury rooms, swimming pool, great living room for relaxing moments. The dinner and wine tasting moments are shared with the other guests. The food is really good even if the wines don’t always match the dishes. Many choices for breakfast. Expensive, but fare giving its classy ambition.

We stayed for a couple if days in Las Majadas with the intention to visit some wine cellars in Colchagua. Often times the most important thing is to know what to expect when you go to a hotel or guesthouse. The best way to define what this guesthouse felt like is to say that it felt like coming home (if I could afford a house this size and the staff). A friendly dog comes to greet you, the staff smiles as you approach and tried to help you and the place is very peaceful. But let me give you a bit more details:

Building and rooms
The building seems fairly recent but with old money decor. A few rooms that we didn't use (a large dining room and other internal rooms) had cracks from the earthquake but nothing too disturbing. Overall it is a very nice large home that was once the living place for a wealthy Chilean family. The rooms are very nicely decorated and somewhat on the small side (very comfortable bed). The only downside is that you don't have AC (which is generally fine as nights are cool even in summer). There is no TV or Internet in the rooms (but a wifi area inside the core structure).

The food
We had breakfast and dinner included and both were great. We were the only ones in the hotel so we basically got what we asked for so am not sure what variety they have but they were very accommodating (with great fresh orange juice and fruits). The dinner felt like what you would eat at home if you had a good cook. So great, tasty food. Better than many restaurants in Santiago...

Service
Great! Always an attentive smile and a helpful advice when needed. Nothing else need be said.

Rest
Nice pool and gardens around the house. They have an old pool table if you are up for it but it does not have much else. Don't expect concierge service or even late night room service (the only one that stays up late is the security person). You can organize wine tastings with the house wine (Bisquerett) which we didn't do but seems quite easy to set up. We organized the wine cellar visits beforehand and I would advise you do the same (as it is unclear that it can easily be organized from here). But having organized our visits it is very easy to do. You just call the wineries you want to visit and they will set it up in a second. We rented a car...I can't imagine doing any of this without one.

Overall
Great place to come and rest and recharge batteries. Close enough to some nice wineries to be a good base to visit wineries in the Colchagua region. One relatively minor point (but which was a bit annoying at times) is that they were suffering from a huge mosquito outbreak. They were kind enough to offer us some repellant but you may want to bring your own. They were in the process of fumigating so with a little luck it won't be an issue when you come around. But even with the mosquitoes the place is highly recommendable!

Stayed here for business team building exercise. Very close to mountain and forest activities. Staff were very accommodating and helpful. The hotel is a relatively new build in the style of old, it features some interesting cracks in the walls due to the last big earthquake which adds to its character. Rooms are comfortable and well decorated.

Would I stay again? Yes, but next time I bring my family
