Oh, what a way to experience San Pedro.
My wife and I booked a week here because of the description of the hotel and the pictures of the "lovely" rooms. We expected a professionally run resort style hotel where we could relax and spend our days worrying about nothing but our SPF. What a mistake.
We began our experience with the hotel by arriving late because of some problems in the Calama airport. The hotel is not in San Pedro and there is no signage, so finding the place was a bit of a chore. We arrived to a locked gate and no lights, so I was forced to climb over the gate and find the night watchman who reluctantly gave us a room, any room, in which to lay our heads.
The room was filthy, the hotel was seriously run down, the "bottled" water in the rooms was undrinkable, and the sheets were well beyond their "use-by" date.
After a cold night of half sleep, we got up at nine o'clock and went to check in. The pool was green, the place looked worse in the day time than under cover of darkness, and we couldn't find any employees to check us in.
The one cleaning lady we found assure us that within five minutes we'd have someone to help us, but by 10:30, we gave up, packed and found ourselves another (great) hotel, the Terrantai.
Now they've charged us the full week, plus a few hundred dollars (as a tip?) and are unresponsive.
Beware!
