“Awesome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013 via mobile

Despite the very early start, freezing temperatures & long drive, it was well worth the effort to see these amazing geysers. Watching the sun come up over the surrounding hills was simply beautiful as was the wild life. A dip in the nearby hit springs was great, despite the hot bits. Take care with regard to altitude sickness as despite taking prescription medicine to limit effects, I felt very ill following my visit.

“Great trip but rug up!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

We went with a tour group left the hotel at 5am and arrived just before dawn. It was -10C so cold but we almost had enough warm clothes on. Our tour guide had warned us it was going to be freezing and she was right! The geysers are not that fantastict (NZ has better) but the fact that they are so high (4400 metres) and it is so cold makes for great photo opportunities Hot chocolate at -10c is the way to finish off the trip

“not the easiest to visit but well worth it while at Atacama”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

This is one of those "unique places on Earthy" tours one can take while at Atacama. This area is apparently the largest geyser field in the southern hemisphere and the third largest field in the world. But despite rumors, this is not the highest geyer field in the world.

But this tour is by no means easy. The trip usually starts at 4-430am, then takes a 2 hour drive to the Tatio. Then the breakfast was set up to be enjoyed at ~15000ft in elevation, at 6 am, in below freezing termperate at -7C/19F. Then the sun finally comes up and the area then gets a little warmer. We walked around the geyser area for 2-3 hours and saw many geysers, some erupting, some pudding, and some just pouring out steaming water. There is also a hotspring for those who want to bathe in. We went to several other smaller attractions after the geysers too and didn't come back to Atacama until 2pm. Bring some snacks/water and extra warm clothing - you will need them.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Really great place. Visit it early in the morning, the geisers are more active then (the difference of air temperature and water temperature is greater in the morning therefore the water, steam and all the other stuff that spurts out is more impressive. The landscape is equally magical, Andes background to the geysers is something else! Caution: we went in February, it is freezing in the morning (-4) cold winds do not help either. Get well dressed. Caution 2: make sure you are well adjusted to heights otherwise you stand a good chance of getting altitude sickness. To prevent that any food you consume at the geisers level should not be too great, eat slowly , walk slowly eat little and enjoy the view. Take big factor sun block. Sun is vicious there.

“Smelly but worth the visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Make it brief but go take some pictures!
It gets windy so hold on to your hat.
My husbands flew off and went down a hole. Vry entertaining but then he had no cover on his head all day.
