“Comfortable stay in San Pedro de Atacama”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

This hotel was part of a package deal and was far more comfortable than I was expecting. Stayed for four nights. Clean, comfortable and warm room. The breakfast was perfectly fine. Not the great selection, but for the price it was good. The restaurant only does soup and sandwiches for dinner. Not sure if that is like that all during the year or just at the low season. It is only a very sort walk into town via a well lit street where there are many, many restaurants to choose form at all different price points.

Free wifi in the lobby.

san pedro is the most expensive city in chile! Hotels are easily over 250usd a night & service is usually not worth the price!
DON TOMAS is perfectly located 3 long block from pedestrian caracoles street! Dnt forget FLASHLIGHT for your return at night since street lights are ot atrong enough + possible black-outs! Rooms are nice, nothing special but HEATING WORKS, hot water all the time & the best PARKING LOT in the town (which is TOP IMP if you have a rented car). all these facilities would give hotel a Good but it was EXCELLENT because to that you add SERVICES!
1- the best RECEPCIONISTS in CHILE is called RICARDO! Attentive, knowledgable & he goes one more step in explaning things!
2- if your stay in over 5 nights you get FREE LAUNDRY SERVICE (which is SO imp at the dustiest place on earth) & a very generous WELCOME DRINK & SNACKS!
3 24hrs COFFEE / TEA service available for free & if you leave hotel before 7am you do NOT miss breakfast but they will prepare it for you to take away!!!

Dont think twice & book this hotel!

We booked Casa Don Tomas as part of a package and there was a choice of two hotels, this was the lesser expensive one (the other was Kimal).

We're really glad we made this choice. Just being slightly away from the thick of it all, and the well positioned rooms meant that we had a really peaceful and quiet stay - mind you it was also Autumn time so fewer tourists - our friends who had stayed in San Pedro the week before complained of the noise at night from a guest house nearer the centre.

Casa Don Tomas is run by extremely helpful people, speaking a number of languages. We had fresh bottles of water in our room every day (a must in San Pedro where you can't drink tap water with any confidence), the rooms were well proportioned, an ideal en suite with spacious shower and it was nice to have a bar at hand (although we didn't use it). The breakfast buffet was very good, always topped up with fresh food. On most days we had to get up very early for excursions and when breakfast was not ready they provided us with packed breakfasts instead. The same for the day we left for Calama airport for which we had to leave early.

I still dream of San Pedro! And when we go back we will go back to Casa Don Tomas too.

Room Tip: All rooms are ground floor chalet-type rooms as far as we could see and sheltered from the full heat...

Recently, stay in this hotel 4 nights. 7 minutes walk to the main town down street.
Single room, small, comfortable, facing noisy street (car, dogs barking, and people walking)

Friendly service, but morning breakfast selection boring, same o' for 4 morning, no variety.

Had cold water for shower one morning, 30 degree F temperature. Normally need to have water run for 5 minutes before.....yet, front door signage read " Don't waste water "

3 star at best...or maybe even a 2 star.

If your hostel days are past you, this is a great option. It is conveniently located about a 5 minute walk from the main street. Breakfast is included. The rooms are basic but very clean. Plenty of hot water. Wi-fi in the lobby and it does reach the rooms right around the lobby. Free tea and nescafe (powdered coffee) all day and night.
The only negative thing I have to say is about their online "reservations" system. You complete the form and get an email with reservation number and everything, but that isn't a reservation. You still have to email them separately to actually make the reservation. Not a good system. I only noticed on the morning of the day I was suppose to arrive, but thankfully they had rooms.

This hotel has an area outside to relax in with comfortable chairs and also a pool although it was too cold to swim in. The rooms are nicely decorated. The breakfast was great. There are hot drinks available 24 hours a day. The hotel is about ten minutes walk from the centre of the village

We stayed for two nights at this quaint and unpretentious hotel. The room was quite small, but the beds were comfortable. The sliding door to the en suite bathroom wasn't a good fit, but the grounds & other hotel facilities made up for this. The staff are helpful & friendly. I enjoyed 'chilling' out in the courtyard area under the trees reading and enjoying the ambience. Would definitely return.
