“An oasis of tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

We stayed here for two nights following a flight from London to Santiago. We loved this hotel. It was in a quiet area next to the Maipo river - which was all you could hear. This is a small, rustic boutique hotel with both Chilean and Balinese influences. Our room was pleasant, the gardens were beautiful and tended every day by gardeners and a lot of thought has obviously gone into their design. The food was freshly prepared daily - they even made their own breads and jams - and was good and plentiful. There is a small pool area - which we didn't use. We were made to feel very welcome by everyone. We just wanted to relax, but there is horseback riding and white water rafting for the more adventurous. We would definitely stay here again.

Me and my fiance stayed in Hotel Altiplanico San Alfonso from March 13 - 16, 2011. I have to say this is the most wonderful holiday we've ever have. The hotel is beautifully set in Canjoy Del Maipo, staff is friendly and helpful, food is superb. I can't think of anything bad about this hotel. If you are looking for a quiet and peacful place this is the one to go. An abosolute gem.

Small hotel with impeccable garden overlooked by soaring mountains within an hour's drive of central Santiago. A haven of peace. Oriental design touches, swimming pool, jacuzzi. Service generally good but rather sleepy especially in dining room. Overnight formula includes all meals. Meal quality uneven, varying from good to poor. Should stick to Chilean cooking rather than over-ambitious but poorly realised international dishes. Needs to learn how to produce a decent espresso. Garden sadly wasp infested, mitigating its delights. Two guests stung during our stay. Beware European "guide", sometimes recommended by the hotel for local tours; he over-charges, is badly organised, runs risks and has little in-depth knowledge of the region.

My husband and I, had finished a trek in Patagonia and we were looking for a place to relax for a couple of day in the countryside in order to avoid Santiago. We found the most perfect place at the Altiplanico. It's the most wonderful retreat one could expect. It based on full pension and the meals are simply delicious. The hotel is located in a small village in the Maipo gorge. It has 8 rooms, great grounds with plenty of intimate corners to relax.
If you are hyper active and want something to do, the hotel can arrange white river rafting, hiking, and excursion to natural hot springs. We felt so relaxed in this hotel, that we didn't move for 48 hours! Highly recommended by seasoned travelers !

We booked into the Altiplanico Santiago for three nights between Christmas and New Year, 2009. It is about an hour's drive out in the Cajon del Maipo. It's a beautiful hotel in a beautiful spot. The hotel is very small and built from adobe with lovely old furniture and gorgeous gardens with a mountain right in front. There is a small outdoor pool and hot tub, which could have been cleaner but the sight of two condors circling over the mountain ridge as we swam made up for that. We had a good time there and found the staff to be friendly and helpful, although sometimes you have to hunt them out. The food was very good and there was lots of it. The deal is that you pay for full board and eat what the chef feels like cooking that day - there is no choice or à la carte menu. They do take into account food preferences and allergies etc. and we had no problem with the meals, but people who want a say in what they eat every night may want to go elsewhere. We had a room with a double bed and a mezzanine with two single beds for our kids. It was not huge but was comfortable and unusual. The website mentions that it is a place of peace and quiet, and it is, most of the time. However, the hotel is right alongside the Maipo river, which is pretty noisy. If you have a room on that side of the hotel and are noise sensitive you might not get too much sleep. Our room was on the other side but we were woken up several times by the barking of three dogs that seemed to be owned by the family of the manageress. We could have done without that at a cost of almost 300USD per night for the FB package for four of us. Other than that minor complaint we had a great time and if we were to be travelling to Patagonia or the Atacama we would check out their sister hotels in these areas.
