“Cooking class at Nary Kitchen was great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We had a great time at Nary Kitchen participating in their cooking class, we were only two and got very individual attention. Toot the cook is very talented and patient in explaining and showing things. We learned how to do spring roles, a traditional fish dish and a traditional beef dish. Best of all we had a stroll over the local market before we started. The kitchen was very clean and at the end of our session we enjoyed eating our own 3course menu. Thank you Toot and Nary. We will pop in again when we come back,

“Interesting dishes, didnt like the way of "teaching"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

Cooking class was very interesting and you get a recipe book. Kitchen was very clean. I did feel like being in kindergarden though as Tooth (the cook) just gives orders and I did not like that. We also spent quite some time to "presentation" on the plate for which I really didn't care. I was there to learn Cambodian dishes, not for "learning" how to slice tomatoes or onions. Its not rocket science! There was also too much of unnecessary cleaning up in between which was of no use since it would be the same again after 1 minute. I think his wife Nary would be better at doing the cooking class. I felt that Tooth was friendly to keep customers happy and not really because thats how he is. It just didnt feel authentic to me. It was all a bit too slow for me and I'm not even a very good cook or so...

“It's an excellent restaurant too!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

Nary Kitchen has such a great reputation for its cooking classes that the restaurant part of the business is overshadowed. Nary cooks for the restaurant customers while her husband Toot conducts the cooking classes. We've taken a few courses while travelling and this experience was one of the best. Toot is professional and speaks excellent English and French. He has good food knowledge and is personable. The premises were clean and well organized for teaching. The Fish Amok was slow cooked for 25 minutes, the traditional way. Slow food in the best sense of the word. Restaurants generally take short cuts and stir fry amok quickly when it should be steamed slowly.

“Good food, disappointing service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Our first impression when we went out to dinner at Nary was good. This was the reason why we wanted to do the cooking class here. We made a reservation to do it on friday at 4.00 pm. But later that night we decided to do a tour the next day, so we didn't know if we would made it to te class in time. We went back to Nary restaurant and discussed with the owner if it was possible to do it one day later, at the same time. The owner said that it was no problem and we could come any time. So, the next day we made the tour and stayed an extra day in Battambang to do the cookingclass one day later. When we came to Nary at saterday the owner was mad at us because he thought we said that we would come 9.00 am. We never said 9.00 am, but we apologized for the misunderstanding and asked if we could do it now. But he was to upset en decided he didn't want to do the cookingclass with us anymore and we had to leave. The only reason we stayed an extra day in Battambang was for the cookingclass, but the owner didn't care and we simply couldn't do the class anymore. Really disappointing.

“Cook with toot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

We had a wonderful cooking lesson with Toot. It began with an informative trip to the market. He made sure we touched and smelt everything so that we became familiar with the exotic items. It was a really hands on class, we had good fun and learnt a lot. Best of all we got to dine with our classmates and enjoy the fruits of our labour. All together an absolutely wonderful evening and all for ten dollars each. Absolute bargain for the level of instruction we received, and even a recipe book containing ten items to try at home. Wonderful. We highly recommend that you cook with Toot!
