“A gem with a swimming pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

This place is superb value at 35$ double

Lovely garden, cold swimming pool and free fruit juice at sunset . Pretty good breakfast as well

Hotels here get full quickly. If you want to stay here book early. It is best value around. I would pre-book at any hotel if going to inlay

We managed 3 nights here but could only find odd nights in other hotels to make up the week

I recommend this hotel if you value hospitality, good food and peace. It was just great with a genuine welcome and attention to detail. I spent 3 nights in a single bungalow with views of the canal. It was a treat to sit on the veranda in the afternoon and watch life go by. It was very peaceful and relaxing with added touches in kindness such as hot water for tea making and fresh fruit juice being delivered to the room. Breakfast was excellent. I wish I had booked a week in Nyaungshwe just to have more time to sit around and do nothing. You really can relax here.

The Hotel is located a short walk from town and there are good restaurants close bye. I recommend using the bicycles that are available for rental all over town, even if you are out of practice like I was it is easy to cycle there as it is flat and in January the weather is cool.

The trip on the lake was a dream, and easily arranged in one of the travel offices.

We had a very quiet and relaxing time here, however a bungalow was being constructed right next to ours and they were building rooms around the pool so it was pretty noisy and disruptive.
However, the owner did take the time to explain to us that he has no choice but to build rooms quickly because of the new regulations being brought in by the government to do with the size limits for hotels and guest houses.

Generally the service was ok, but not very warm. The staff don't really interact with you unless you ask for something and didn't have too many suggestions for activities. However every day a smoothie was brought to our rooms and a big boiler of fresh water for tea. The rooms were clean and our bungalow was just the idyllic simple room with a lovely balcony with chairs for reading over looking the little canal.

We borrowed bikes one day and the pedal fell off one whilst we were way out of town, so we had to walk back and take it to a local shop in town! But the experience of the repair shop was so lovely that we are glad this happened.

The pancakes at breakfast are amazing. We were there for 4 days and the slow paced life in Nyaung Shwe, the bustle of the markets and the beautiful lake were great. The pool looked lovely but due to all the construction and builders around it we didn't go in.

we stayed three nights and were verbally told at time of reservation that they only have a room available and not a bungalow, which are much nicer and costlier. The garden and pool area are very nice and give a relaxing feeling. The breakfast was very good and we were really taken care of.
The rooms are new and not yet fully furnished. They lack a table and a chair and a wardrope. Outside there is little veranda with comfortable chairs to sip your sundowner.
As mentioned by others, the rooms are clairaudient, so eyeryone has to take care, and respect others sleep. Lots of hot water in the spacios bathroom.
We would stay again, if needed.

Room Tip: make sure where you are staying. room or bungalow

We've just come back from the Princess Garden hotel and unfortunately it was a HUGE disappointment. The reviews you see on tripadvisor or lonely planet all talk about the bungalows. However, the owner has just recently completed a block with new rooms which is nowhere near the standard of the bungalows. We stayed in such a room which was VERY basic:
- square room with bed, fan, bedside tables and fridge
- no TV, no wardrobe, no shelf so we had to put all out clothes on the floor
- the rooms have only one window to the garden but if you don't want to be exposed you have to keep the curtains shut which makes the room very dark (only one ceiling light)
- the front "window" is actually only a mosquito net so the room is freezing at night and gives you no privacy whatsoever. You have to whisper in your own room if you want a private conversation. This means of course that you hear every word your neighbours are saying and/or their snoring. Great when their conversations wake you up at 3am...
- there was no hot water when we were there so we had to change our room to one closet situated to the boiler. Then it was fine though.
- only a mosquito net as a window in the wet room too: absolutely freezing!
- no wifi at all

I really would not recommend staying in these rooms. Also I have to admit that I am mad at the owner, as I booked the Princess Garden hotel based on the reviews on tripadvisor (#2 B&B) but he could have told me that the room we booked was not the same standard as the bungalows. I have stayed in basic hotels before but I was just expecting something that had at least a window, privacy and hot water.

My husband and I spent 5 days at Princess Garden in July 2012. It was by far the best place we stayed during our month in Myanmar. The owners were extremely helpful and assisted us in any way they could. Although located on the edge of town, I found that to be beneficial, as nothing is very far away, and the countryside was beautiful. You can bike to the winery and into town, although everything in town is accessible on foot. The pool was refreshing after a day trip to Inle Lake or whatever other adventure we decided to do. The service was outstanding - cool beverage on arrival most afternoons, great and plentiful breakfast, etc. I highly recommend this bungalow/hotel!

We stayed here for 6 nights and loved every minute .The bungalows are spacious and comfortable and there is plenty of hot water for showers.I enjoyed sitting on our verandah watching the day to day village life over the fence from the hotel. Every evening the children would fly their kites high in the sky.It was so peaceful and relaxing with many butterflies and birds flying around. Every aftenoon we were treated to a snack. We had milkshake, tamarind buns, lime juice and sometimes a biscuit. If you weren't sitting by the pool the girls would come and find you to deliver the treat.
Breakfast was really good and the beautiful pancakes that we were given each day were superb.
Ko Aung arranged our airport taxi both ways and was a wealth of information and local knowledge. He and his wife were really interesting to talk to.
We ate many times at Green Chilli which is so convenient and serves delicious food in beautiful surroundings.
The market is wonderful especially when the 5 day market is held there. We enjoyed exploring the little town. We found the post office still with it's english sign in position!. It was so interesting just being in the town. We didn't see many tourists and I expect a lot of people just go on the lake and miss a treat.
The gardens are full of flowers and I liked the little jungly paths that led you to your own little bungalow.
This is one of my favourite places and we would love to return some day.
