“Excellent Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2009

Had an amazing stay in the Marieta Palace. The hotel is very modern and everything is spotlessly clean. The rooms are really big with a good sized balcony and the rooms on higher floors have a great view over the nearby apartment blocks to the sea. TThe bathroom was great and the shower was the best Ive ever had! The swimming pool is on the top of the hotel and is relatively small but is usually very quiet and looks very pretty. On one day we even had the pool completely to ourselves which was great! Breakfast was fine with a wide selection of different things. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to old nessebar and 10 minutes to the south nessebar bar beach so everywhere is pretty accessible. Marieta Palace is only a relatively small hotel so it had a lot more character than some of the much bigger hotels being built on south nessebar beach. There is also a nice outdoor bar, bowling alley and a disco but we never heard any noise!

Old Nessebar is an amazing location with so many lovely cobbled streets to explore and little bars and restaurants to try out. We were definitley pleased that we only stayed bed and breakfast at the hotel as it meant we could try a different restaurant every night. Our favorite was Kapitanska Sereshta which is in a lovely old building on the south side of the island with lovely sea views. The food was amazing with lots of traditional bulgarian dishes and there are 2 guys who come round and serenade you as you eat!. One of them plays guitar and the other does the accordian and you can request any song!

All in all the Marieta Palace is a great base from which to explore the charming little town of old nessebar!

We were put into the Marieta Palace in Nessebar because the hotel we had booked was not ready.

It is a very nice 4* hotel which is kept immaculately clean. We were given clean towels and linen every day. However, the hotel is 1km from the beach and is situated in the centre of the town, which personally we didn't like. There are no sea views from any of the rooms and a lot of the rooms overlook very run down apartment blocks. It is well located for all the local restaurants and bars. The swimming pool is on the rooftop and is very very small, again you would not want to spend very much time there.

We only stayed on a B&B basis and were very glad that we did as it was very cheap to eat out. Most evenings we spent approx £15 per couple max including wine. Breakfast was OK with bacon and eggs etc. but was very repetitive with only melon as the main form of fruit each morning. You get an electric kettle in your room but take tea bags and coffee with you as this is not supplied.

Just one block over from the hotel we found a wonderful restaurant called the Forrester Grill where the food and wine were superb. We would recommend the baked cheese starter, goats cheese with honey and walnuts which is lightly toasted. The restaurant next to the hotel is also very good and inexpensive. Across the road there is a roof top bar where you can get a local beer for 40p and a hefty gin and tonic for 75p.

Nessebar certainly still seems a lot cheaper than Sunny Beach, and Old Nessebar also seemed to ripping the tourists off as well.

If you are not bothered about being close to the beach and don't mind a small swimming pool and sun bathing area then I am sure you will find the hotel to be adequate.

The beach is beautiful with white sand and gently shelving beach. However, the sun beds and umbrellas were quite expensive for a days hire 30 Levs which is about £12.00. In Sunny Beach they were 21 Levs and were more comfortable!
