“More a villa than a palace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Quenn Mary of Romania used to come here (at that time Balchik was part of the Kingdom of Romania) to relax, surrounded by painters and other artists. The villa and the botanical garden is extremely well preserved and at the foot of the hill where the villa and gardens are situated is the Black Sea - the beach is narrow, but the water is clean and still - great to swim.
In a word - a hidden pearl at the Black sea coast.
There are also some wine tasting places, with special types of wine (ice wine).

“we has been there 3 times till now,and every time I have spent hours walking and taking photographs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

There are many different flowers and plants and they are very beautifully arranged. That place has unique atmosphere. It was a residence of a Romanian queen where she wanted to be in peace. And really that place is full of tranquility and beauty.

“A must-do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Balchik over the centuries kept passing hands between Bulgaria and Romania. At one point a Romanian queen decided that she would like a summer residence with a large botanical garden on the water in Balchik. The botanical garden still stands today and is very beautiful. It is a great place to walk around and just enjoy nature.

“Queen's Mary of Romania Castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

This is an amazing place to visit, its gorgeous amazing views and the garden its very impressive. It has been constructed back in 1937 by the ruler of Romania, Queen Mary. The construction actually took 11 years to complete but it has worth the wait as the result is mesmerizing.
And this doesn’t refer solely to the caste itself, but to its surroundings as well, which are an intrinsic part of the castle. The estate contains, besides the main castle, several villas where the guests of the Queen could rest undisturbed, a botanical garden with waterfalls and streams, Roman baths, and a chapel.
Queen Mary wanted to create here a replica of the Holy Lands.
The 9 m long waterfall its very impressive.Right above the waterfall, there is a flower garden with diverse blossoms which creates a vibrant and colorful scenery.
The Castle of Queen Mary can be described as an oasis. It offers a wonderful insight into the architectural designs of different cultures
