“Great pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2015

A perfect view over the port of Balchik and very close to the Romanian Royal Garden(a place of Romanian history preserved in Bulgaria). Balchik is a clean city near the Black Sea with great restaurants over the sea. Marina City is not a hotel but it can provide great family rooms, and the pool is great. Situated at first floor, it gives the sensation of swimming in the sea.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights with some friends from Bucharest. They had been to the area befeore, but not to this particular hotel. We were very happy with our experience.

Because it was early August, it was HOT, and I always fear that people who live in these climates won't worry too much about the effectiveness of air conditioning. Thankfully, that was not the case. The room's A/C worked just fine; I even had to adjust it upwards on the first night because I was too cold!

The room had an ample bathroom and comfortable bed, as well as fair-sized balcony. It also had a kitchenette (which I didn't end up using) and sitting area. Larger suites had a kitchen table and separate bedroom. The TV was small and a little outdated (not flatscreen), but then I didn't go to Bulgaria to watch TV. I had no trouble sleeping; the live music on the boardwalk seems to shut down around midnight, which is when we were going to bed anyway.

We didn't have many service needs from the hotel staff beyond them checking us in/out. I got a little queasy at having to leave my passport with them at the front desk for a while; apparently they have to enter that information in their system, and this seemed normal to my Romanian friends, so I went along. We picked up the passports later that day, with no problems. (Yes, I was able to leave the country without being arrested.)

Breakfast was included in our stay, and served by El Simpatico restaurant on the boardwalk. It was great because they had a secondary seating area right on the Black Sea, so you could enjoy your breakfast while watching the waves and seagulls. The breakfast menu was limited, though, with four combinations to choose from: one pancake breakfast, and three variations of eggs, ham (or not), bread/toast, fruit, tea/coffee/juice. Certainly enough to get your day going, but if you stayed several nights then choosing from the same selections would get tedious.

All of this came for only 75 euros/night, which is very reasonable (from a North American perspective). I don't know if I'll ever be in Balchik again, but I would definitely consider staying at Marina City again if I am.

Room Tip: My room was at the east end of the building (01/02/03 room #s) which I think are a little quieter th...

This aparthotel is quite new - rooms are new, everything smell like new. Good quality furniture and kitchen appliances. Some small things left unfinished at the electrical part (cable prepared to be wired to something...)
There's no WIFI in the room (only cable connection if you want).
The parking places (free ones) are not so many (8 places in the fron tof the hotel), totally not enough for the capacity (approx 100 apartments).
The shower is strange - bad quality fixtures / no water protection so after a shower entire bathroom is wet.

Taking into account these, the price requested is way too big!

Located on sea shore, close to Botanical garden and Romanian princess's palace. A lot of restaurants nearby, great swimming pool overlooking the sea. Service of the complex was on high level. Some staff didn't speak English that well, but were eager to help.

I've been with my family 2 weeks ago in this apart-hotel. We stayed in one bedroom apartment which was very large, a nice living room and a big balcony. The kitchenette is included in the living room furniture and it has everything you need for, including electrical devices for kitchen, full operational. The hotel are quiet and that gives you the relax feeling.
The view was great! We have the view of Marina yachting harbor.
The shore has many attractions, especially for kids, but also many restaurants with cheap prices.

The swimming pool is at 1st level, outdoor and is very attractive! A bar is available at the pool.

A must is to visit the Balchik castle where Romanian Queen Mary stayed many years and the botanical garden from the castle neighborhood.
A visit to the mussel farms (at 20 km from Balchik) will reveal the traditional way to prepare sea food.

I recommend this hotel.

A minus can be a parking place which was difficult to find, even the hotel has 4 - 5 places which were always occupied (with 5 euro / 3 -4 days I solved the problem with the security guy).
Also, the large beach where you can find an acceptable place is at 300 - 400 meters. A small private beach is near, but is quite small (max 10 meter width and 30 meters length).

We've been to Marina City twice; once in 2009 and again in 2010. The apartment we stayed in was a friend of my Dad's - I believe the owner converted two apartments into one. This slept 4 adults and 2 children comfortably with 2 bathrooms, 2 balcony's, and a beautiful view. The area as many people have said, is still untouched by tourism which makes it that much better. The staff in the restaurants on the Marina are very friendly and make an effort to remember who you are. The beach outside Marina City is not that great, however, if you walk up to the right, you will find some great spots. There is a restaurant at the very end of the 'stretch' to the right; you will see it from Marina City, which is actually part of another hotel, and it is definitely worth the walk to eat there. The only downside about this place would be the advice from the staff for 'trips out' as we never really got an answer to the excursions we enquired about.
