I booked my stay on the desk itself, but I wouldn't recommend that during popular seasons, December and July (summer in Brazil). My stay was in March so the prices we low: 80BRL/day (about $47USD).
Friendly clerk, great location - maybe the best in downtown, in front of "the strip".
Rooms are "bare bones", clean and tidy. No Wi-Fi as far as I know (I didn't take my laptop in this occasion) and cable TV is poor (maybe 90% brazilian channels). Hey, you're there for beach and not for Internet!
This is not a hotel actually, we call it "Pousada" in Brazil. I guess the closest to that in english is Bead and Breakfast (B&B).
On checkout I was charged 10% more, something like a "Service Tax". Brazilian hotels are not like USA hotels, which charge for the room and for local taxes. Taxes in Brazil are not specified in ordinary receipts, but taxes are everywhere - that's why an iPod nano 4GB costs about $325 USD there.
This "tax" is is not mandatory and should be called "tip", because most restaurants have this "magic" 10% tip in every bill too. The point is that nobody told me about this "tip" during my check in, I was embarassed to say "No" when I checked out. Final advice: pay in advance and read your bill.
