Owner description: Rising out of the northern frontier of the city and boasting more than 8,000 hectares of unspoiled Atlantic coastal forest, the verdant Parque Estadual da Cantareira (Cantareira State Park) offers rustic hiking trails, swimmable lakes, birdwatching and breathtaking views of the sprawling city below. Next door is the Horto Florestal, the one-time summer mansion of São Paulo state governors, and the monument to the Tropic of Capricorn, which runs through the park.

“True nature in the middle of São Paulo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

If you want to take some fresh air, meet old subtropical trees, small wild animals like bugio (type of monkey) and iguanas, and also have a big sight of São Paulo city, that´s the place to go.
The tracks inside this park are good and walking there restores our energy levels. Relaxing, fun and amusing for less than 10 reais !

Magnificent area for leisure, with mounds of centennial trees as well new ones. Each one has its name, family and specie. Parque is beautiful, with tropical and equatorial green houses, lakes & picnic areas.

“Nice escape from the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2012 via mobile

This is a nice escape from the city, only 45 minutes north of the centre but feels further. The park is big, with numerous entry points, each with a variety of trail options - from 300m to almost 10km in length. Several have pleasant waterfalls to cool off, occasional views of the city in the distance. All in the middle of the Atlantic rainforest.

“A Great escape from city madness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2012

The north border of Sao Paulo city is limited by the Parque Estadual da Cantareira, if you have any local friend, ask him for a city escape to the hills by curvy roads, relax and take some fresh air.

“Serra da Cantareira - Great View of São Paulo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

If you want to see one of the best views of the city of São Paulo you must go to the famous Serra da Cantareira. You can go inside the Cantareira State Park and walk about 3 kilometers up the mountain. There is a resting area at the top called Pedra Grande (Big Rock) which you can see one of the greatest views of São Paulo.
Tips:
1 - Don't forget your camera, you are gonna love to take some pics.
2 - Take a water bottle with you because it's a long walk up to the top (3 km)
3 - Use confortable clothes and shoes.
