After reading the "Stay Away" review, I was very worried about reserving this hotel at the last minute.
However, my experience was completely different and more similar to some of the other reviews on the net.
I stayed for four weeks in two visits in April and May 2007 and found the hotel comfortable and entirely adequate.
There was no problem with my internet reservations. The prices and conditions were correct and I was given extensions at the same rates. The staff were helpful and friendly and the free breakfast buffet was excellent (better to go early to avoid the crowds mid-week).
The rooms are clean and comfortable. I didn't find the hotel musty. My laundry was always taken when I asked and returned promptly in good order.
There are no irons or coffee makers in the rooms though.
I didn't have a problem connecting my VPN but the hotel internet often crashes completely when the hotel is full with conferences - usually mid-week during the day.
I didn't try room-service because there are at least 20 food outlets, a food-court and two Starbucks in Morumbi Shopping Centre, across the road, and Market Place nearby. All the restaurants were able to offer English menus if you can't work out enough Portuguese.
I never had any safety issues in Sao Paulo, although the locals advised not going back to the hotel from the office at Market Pace with my laptop late at night.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, particularly if you have business in the Morumbi area
No idea what type of travellers the previous posters are but for a very frequent traveller, booked in this hotel by my local office… a word of caution – stay well away if you can.
You would only stay in this hotel if on business and for this purpose you need:
1. A clean room
2. Decent service
3. Some basic amenities (internet, laundry)
Sadly this “hotel” fails in almost all counts. Room is basic – but would be acceptable would it not be for (1) the smell of mould permeating throughout the hotel and (2) the appalling service. No iron in room so you have to pay R20 each time – ideal for a business trip (see below). Room service is worst – food is simply disgusting (greasy at best) and housekeeping managed to burn several shirts while ironing them – with very little response from Management. To add to it all, my reservation was lost upon arrival – they were able to re-organize a room but this is further evidence of the incompetence of this place. Finally, the internet doesn’t allow for VPN connection – again, another basic failure.
This is quite simply a property best avoided.
We stayed here for the Brazilian GP in 06. Very nice hotel, close to the track and the national airport. The staff were very helpful, the rooms were great and it had a nice overall atmosphere. If I were to travel again I would stay here. There are shops and restaurants close by and a big shopping centre just on the corner.
I should start by saying I'm not a fan of Sao Paulo, but I'm a big fan of Brazil. I've visited the country multiple times, both for work and please. I've stayed at the Blue Tree Morumbi on various occasions, always for work. The rooms are clean and modern. Everything works. Service overall is attentive. Room service is quick. The breakfast buffet is among the best I've had anywhere..
Obviously it's a bonus to have Morumbi Shopping (and the other mall -- name escapes me) across the street. While I wouldn't recommend walking at night anywhere in SP, at least you can dart over to Morumbi Shopping and enjoy some of the quite good restaurants there in a safe environment.
You do need to allow time to get to/from the airport -- and that's not the hotel's fault. SP is one of the largest cities in the world, so traffic and distance are issues. Unless you choose to stay near the main airport Guarulhos, you'll be dealing with traffic and distance no matter which hotel you choose.
Bottom line... if you're visiting SP, this hotel is a very solid choice.
