Rodeio is my favorite restaurant in Sao Paulo. It’s definitely a bit a see-and-be-seen kind of place located off of the major shopping drag Oscar Freire. But the food and service are outstanding. While it’s a steakhouse, not a churrascaria, my favorite dish is definitely the palmito, followed by their salad, which they mix table-side.
The palmito, or heart of palm, is about 1.5 ft. long. It is served hot and has consistency similar to that of a boiled potato. They bring over the entire roasted palmito and take it from the husk table-side. The flavor is a little smoky. It’s delicious. I’m told that there are limitations on production, and Rodeio has its own farm where it grows and harvests palmito for its two restaurants.
In terms of meat, my Sao Paulo friends all love the picanha cut. It’s grilled near the table and served in medallions.
