“Very good stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2010

"I wished, had more days to stay at Marriott". It was wonderful experience staying at Marriott even though it was just for a day. The location is good, quiet near to the airport, which makes it easy to travel to airport in spite of long traffic in Sao Paulo. The food served in the buffet is excellent. Overall it was pleasure staying at Marriott.

The GRU Marriott is the archetypal airport hotel and is fine for its purpose. Not great value at US$130, but very quick, easy access to/from the airport, quick check-in/out, comfortable, quiet and good service. Staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. Buffet breakfast was excellent, with a huge range of items to choose from. No wonder all the aircrew there seemed very comfortable and well-fed.

Executive room was a good size, with all the usual 4* business hotel stuff, a very comfortable bed and the sound insulation excellent . Rather tired design, decor and furniture, but fine for an overnight stay and we slept very well. The room also had a good sized terrace with table and chairs and a good view of the 'planes and surroundings. The executive lounge was open 24/7 and well-stocked with refreshments.

The only downsides were the pool and a potentially lethal electrical system. The outdoor swimming pool is a good size and looked really inviting. I soon realised why I was alone when I dipped in, though - it was unheated and freezing! The electrical problem is ridiculous and dangerous: the guest rooms have sockets for 110v & 240v, but they are identical, not obviously marked and the room has appliances of both voltages. One can easily plug apliances into the wrong sockets, with potentially terrible consequences. I found out the hard way, emerging wet from the shower, plugging in an iron, having it blow up in my hand and blowing the room fuses. Quite a shock.

All-in-all, fine, but could easily be much better with a couple of niggles resolved.

fine hotel with everything you expect from a marriot. free airport bus, good security, rooms very large, good restaurants and nice bar in lobby, rooms clean and fitted out to a good standard, staff helpful even if a little busy during my time there.

we recently returned from a great trip to brazil. we stayed at the marriott at the airport because it was close to the airport and we had a number of flights in and out of GRU. The location close to the airport was very useful. the service was poor. the price was higher than expected. One of the big compliants was the nickel and dime approach that they have. would not stay there again.

I chose this hotel because I wanted some sleep before an 11-hour flight, and a chance to use a gym on a business trip. The receptionists were friendly and polite. But... my room overlooked a thunderously-loud highway to the airport. So little sleep. And the gym? When I tried to run on one treadmill, I was hustled off and told that was "for walking only" (go figure). The atmosphere in the gym was loud and raucous - lots of people hanging round who clearly weren't guests or actually doing any exercise. A first for a Marriott. Next time I will pay a little extra and get something more upmarket in the city centre. It can hardly be worse value than the Sao Paulo Airport Marriott.
