“A taste of northeast in the deep south!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2011

Very nice find! Food wast great but many of the favorites where only served for two, eg moqueca, and I am traveling solo. The is more with food for a group of friends but I enjoyed it too. The bring around small food samplers so you can still try a number of things but prices seem a little high but not to crazy. Definitely woth the effort to get there. The whole neighborhood is filled with nigh life options.

“One of the best restaurants in Porto Alegre, specially for tourists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2011

Dona Zefinha specializes in typical Northeastern Brazilian Cuisine, which is very different from local southern Brazilian food, specially from Gaúcho food (that is, food typical from the state of Rio Grande do Sul). Locals that are unfamiliar with northeastern Brazil may feel like tourists themselves when they come to Dona Zefinha: the dishes, ingredients and dish descriptions all have exotic names with words not spoken in the south of Brazil. The food is exceptionally well prepared and well presented, and it's indeed a great sample of what Brazilian Northeast cuisine has to offer. The decoration is awesome. The waiting is very friendly, however they don't speak english at all. The restaurant also makes their own sauces, spices and cachaça mixes that are exposed inside the restaurant in a "spices buffet" that you can try on demand and purchase if you like it.
If you're travelling the south of Brazil on business or for other reason and you don't have the chance to make it to Northeast's famous beaches and food, I'd say Dona Zefinha is the closet you'll get to that and to knowing a little bit more about this big country.
The place is not vegan friendly and pretty much all dishes are meat based.
Tip: whatever dish you order, you MUST order Acarajé as an appetizer. It's a deep fried bean flour based dough that resembles in texture a falafel. Acarajé is brazilian food by excellence. It is considered by a cultural patrimony of Brazil.

“Fun decor, great menu and yummy food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2011

Dona Zefinha specializes in northeastern Brazilian cuisine. The menu is extensive and has many tradition dishes from that area. The service was quite good.

Many of the dishes are for 2, and we got the Caramão Tropical Refeição: shrimp and rice served in pineapple halves with a rich cream sauce. One pineapple half help the shrimp and the other the rice. The sauce was divine. We stuffed ourselves happily.

I can't wait to go back!
