This place could be one of the best hostels in rio but as previous reviewers have said the staff are incompetent! Prices are high doors are tripple bunks and no space in the rooms for anything but some lockers. Bathrooms are grimey and need a good clean. The staff though are what holds this place back. Bad attitudes, unhelpful, and lazy. Hopefully somebody in charge reads this and does something about it. Such a dissapointment.

Based on the positive reviews we read, a friend and I booked this hostel for three nights. We had a private ensuite double. We couldn't even stay one night. The room was extremely small, there were puddles on the cement floor, and it stunk of mold and mildew. There was no air conditioning, just a pathetic fan on the floor. The mattress had tons of brown spots and the sheets were stained. We went to the front and explained that we couldn't stay there because of the smell and the mattress and they made us pay for one night instead of being understanding of the fact that that smell would make you sick. To put it in perspective, my friend traveling from New Orleans said it smelled like the city post-Katrina. It was absolutely disgusting. I would not recommend anyone stay in this cesspool of a hostel. We paid a fortune just to not stay there.

This is an awesome hostel, but I think for the amount it's charging, it needs to make some serious improvements. We stayed here for carnival and it had a great atmosphere, excellent to have the pool to cool off, and a good place for meeting people and partying. However, with a price tag like that I think the very least you can expect is to have air con or a fan in your room. We were in a 9 bed dorm with air con, but it didn't seem like it as it did very little. A lot of the other rooms didn't have air con in which is poor form at that price - it gets so hot that there is no way you can sleep. One room even had their fan taken away which is really bad. Other than that, the design of the place is fantastic, the staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfasts are great. I'm sure it feels much better value for money when it's not carnival time!

Room Tip: Make sure you get air con - you'll need it.

location is certainly great, just a few hundred meters from the Ipanema beach, an easy stroll down a few blocs, and in a great restaurant and shopping neighbourhood. Also the small pool adds certainly to the positive points.Computers available, plus a fridge full of cold drinks at the reception.Nice excursions on offer, helpful and friendly staff, security wise a safe place as well.
But then it turns into negative comments like cramped 6 people dorms the size of a mouse trap
where at the entrance door, your little finger can not pass between the door and the next furniture!Plus toilets are not regulary cleaned, I have seen the same papers on the floor the whole day as well as the black hair and sand in the shower, with so many movements in the house, there should be a cleaning lady making her rounds, not a problem really in Brazil.

The title says it all really.

Good points-

excellent location, near the beach, and beside some great eateries.

Staff are friendly & helpful

The tours they organise are great

The breakfast is above average

The pool is great

Sadly, the two major downsides over rule all of the above-

No air conditioning in our private room. It was a total sweat box, impossible to sleep in.

The family of cockroaches that lived I'm or room freaked my girlfriend out.

Bottom line, we checked out after 3 nights (having originally booked 7) and moved to an air conditioned room in nearby adventure hostel.

I should emphasise though that the staff on reception were excellent

Good party atmosphere during carnival! Stayed here with my partner in the 9 bed dorm. If it had been cheaper, we'd have booked a private room as sleeping was an issue (hot despite aircon, 3 tier beds shake a lot, people coming and going constantly flicking lights on and talking at full volume). The breakfasts are good. The social areas are comfortable, nicely decorated and it's a good place to meet others. The upstairs shower drain is still blocked and floods whist you're in there. Reception staff were quite friendly and helpful. There's seperate wifi codes for the front and the back of the hostel, we discovered this towards the end of our stay. Overall a pretty good stay but mainly for the 18 - 30s crowd.

Room Tip: The lowest bunks are better - less like an earthquake! The upstairs rooms are quieter and with chill...

Very good location, clean rooms and nice staff. Breakfast is fine and easy to walk beach. We stayed 1 night in a private room and 1 night in dorm. Only private room too small and a bit expensive. I suggest to stay dorm rooms, it is quite ok and safe.
