“Location, Design and rooftop!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

Rio lacks in good hotel options. Fasano is ideed one of the best and charges accordingly. Location can't be beat and they have the most amazing rooftop swimming pool with views of Arpoador and Ipanema. Beautiful crowd, very good service, trendy hotel but it's showing some age in a few details, like scratched wood panelings and not so soft towels. Rooms facing what they call courtyard actually face the backside building, quite close, and are also small - if you're staying longer than a weekend do consider a seaview room, larger and better. Apart from Fasano's brand gourmet tradition, breakfast does not surprise at all. Their restaurant is really good, but I was charged R$80 (around US$50) for a glass of Chandon champagne, which I found outrageous.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and get a seaview room, they're bigger and have grat views.

This is the place to be in Rio. Well designed rooms, trained staff and the best rooftop pool in Rio.
It's very expensive but you know where you are getting into when you book it.

It is without doubt expensive but has great location and fantastic views. Also very good breakfast and the spa is small but great treatments. The knock out factor is the roof pool - just amazing! Hard to beat. We certainly didn't see any other hotels whilst we were there that tempted us. Already booked to back next year.

Room Tip: Request a high floor when you book it, the noise from the street in front of the hotel can be annoyi...

Excellent location, excellent hotel, very very expensive. Despite the price i will definitely stay here again and again. The only real alternative in this class is possibly Copacabana Palace on Copacabana beach but Ipanama where Fasano is located is a much better location. I was a bit dissapointed that they charge R$50 for one day of internet access and would have expected this to be included in the room rate.

View from the bar and pool area on the roof is amazing.

Room Tip: Two types of rooms, those a sea view and those overlooking a run down building to back of hotel, obv...

Staying at Hotel Fasano was overall a great experience. The location is perfect, situated on ipanema beach, and close walking distance to copacabana. The pool is amazing. It is an infinity edge pool that has an incredible view of the ocean, mountains, islands and you can even see the Christ statue. The decor is hip and contemporary, the service throughout the hotel was very friendly and accommodating. It cost us $1,000 per night for an ocean view room. We were on the 2nd floor which was not great because the noisy street below was right in front of us and there are a million people walking around which doesn't give you a lot of privacy, we requested a room on a higher level but they didn't have any available. We got over it and it was fine. I wish we would have requested a room on a higher level when we made the reservation. The club in the hotel is fantastic. We're a married couple 34 yrs old no kids and enjoyed it there was a great DJ playing Brit dance music and American pop/dance music; the vibe was very cool. It was busy from midnight to 3am. The front desk staff are very friendly but a little clueless, so is the concierge. Dont rely on their advice for dinner reservations. We wanted to go to a churrascarria / brazilian steakhouse, they sent us to a dump called Porcao. The atmosphere was like a cheap Chinese buffet. There were a bunch of badly dressed tourists and empty tables at 8:30pm on a Friday night. We left and went to fogo de chao in the botafogo area and it was great. I hated to go there since its a chain that has restaurants in the US, but it did not disappoint and they have a great deck that overlooks the bay. I also hate to bring all this up in a hotel review but the point is do your own research don't rely on their staff to make good dining reservations for you they probably get a kickback for recommending the places that are on their "preferred list" (they also gave us a ticket to bring with us to Porcao that said that we were referred by hotel Fasano). One last thing, if you are thirsty they have bottles of water at the front desk that they will give you for free...that's a cheap-o comment but at hotels like this that charge a decent amount for water in the mini bar its a nice little score. :)

One of the top hotels in Rio de Janeiro!
Having said that, the focus of the hotel is design! The standard room (which is whatever room not heading to the beach front) is very small and illumination is not good.
Not everybody likes it, but I love those overhead (rooftop) showers that they have in their rooms.
To reduce it to the max: The hotel is all about the rooftop pool. Breathtaking view during the day as well as at night.
Negative is a daily rate of BRL 50.-- for internet access as well as staff always wanting to speak english with you.... Well, it may be ok if you're american, and that's what most of the guests are... But as a portuguese speaker I do not love that "service"...
Gym is small but quite well equipped.
Breakfast with all you deserve, but with BRL 70.-- on the more expensive side...
The hotel has one of the best locations in Rio. Close to Arpoador (to see the beautiful sundowns), close to "Posto 9", one of the best places to go to the beach (place of the locals) and not very far from Dias Ferreira (road with nice restaurants in Leblon).
