Boticario Square, or Largo do Boticario in Portuguese is a lovely spot in Laranjeiras. It's not too far from the bottom station of the Corcovado tram.
The main interest in visiting this spot is to get a glimpse of how Rio was in the colonial times: large houses surrounded by lush vegetation, with a river running on the edge of the square. Despite being yards away from a thoroughfare you can only hear the birds singing and the river flowing. It only takes a couple of minutes to visit this place, so it's worth asking your cab driver to take a detour.
