“Amazing views, beautiful trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

I found this site completely by accident - it's at the north end of Copacabana Beach (to the left as you face the ocean from the beach). Cost to tour is about $2. There is an 800m trail (which is somewhat steep) through the restored rainforest to fort at the top. I saw several marmosets and lizards on the way, and the foliage was lush; I would guess it would be blooming had it not been winter. The view from the top is stunning - Copacabana beach on one side, Guanabara Bay and Sugarloaf mountain on the other, Redeemer statue in the distance. This is definitely worth the trip.

“Lovely walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

A lot of people don't know that this fort is a visitor's attraction and you need to access it through a small military facilty at the base of the mountain. The walk up the hill is very nice and there are monkey's and birds to be seen. The fort has informative displays and hosts a beautiful view of Rio, Sugarloaf, Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.

“Good view from small hilltop fort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

Tucked in behind Leme Beach at the east end of Copacabana Beach, is the entrance to the park and one km paved trail up to the fort. The fort was one of many built to defend Rio, and from its perch atop Leme Hill, it has a great view of the beach and the bay. The fort itself is nicely restored and some of the rooms have been outfitted with artifacts and information panels are on view. It has an odd history – only firing its canons in response to internal conflict, never against a foreign invader. The hill itself was once barren but has been reforested and along with observing a variety of birds, we also spotted mico-estrelas (black-tufted marmosets), a squirrel size monkey usually found further inland. Admission is only 4 BRLs, about $2.

“Best view of Copacabana and Leme beaches!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Just relax and lay back for a while near the entrance of the construction to enjoy such an amazing view of all the beauty that Copacabana and Leme beaches have to offer!
There you can soak up the sun or take a nap under the trees or do whatever pleases ya!

Love it and will be back real soon!
