In the united states for the same price you can get a much nicer hotel but hotel prices in Rio are very expensive so far the money based on Rio prices you get what you pay for. Downsides: The staff always left room service trays in the stairs hallway when guests were done with them for up to one day. Saw two roaches in my three days there and I was there just to sleep and use the pool. You can only get 1 room key and it has your room number on the key so don't lose it because it will cost you a lot to replace it. You need to pay to use the in room safe. The key must be inserted into the wall slot once inside to power the electric I had never encountered something like this before. Next time I go to Rio I will search at least 6 months ahead for a hotel deal if I can not find a better deal I would stay here again.
Upsides: First things first... Location...1.5 blocks to the beach a total of a 5 minute walk, 2 minutes into the walk you can see Copacabana. Front desk staff knew enough English to always help two non Portuguese speaking guests. The staff was very friendly (bartenders, waiters, and bell boys do no know any English)
They have a lot of information and tours offered from the hotel. There is almost always one hotel staff member if not two waiting at the door and will open it for you night or day. It seemed very safe. The hotel pool while small was very nice, quiet, and clean. There is a bar on the first floor and right next to the pool (not a swim up bar).
The first floor you can stay on actually starts on the third floor.
