I have stayed at this property every year since 2003. If I'm not mistaken it openned in November of 2002. It really is a sweet spot. The suites are like studio apartments. They are nice and spacious. They include a stove refridgerator, micro waive, dining table, sofa, and if you have a balcony there is furniture out there as well. It is a contemporary design with white tile floors and granite in the bath and the kitchen. The hotel has about 11 floors and there are about 6 to 8 rooms on each floor.
It's located 2 blocks from Copacabana beach, behind the Rio Othon. The neighborhood is very nice, there are Juice stores on the corner and plenty of opportunities to sample the local food from the various restaurants nearby. There are barber shop and manicur shops in the neighborhood as well. The post office is 3 blocks away. The staff has always been friendly and very helpful, and they remembered us after ther 1st visit.
One good thing is that if you are a single male staying there, they will allow you to have over night guest, and when your guest leaves they will call you to make sure that every thing is ok.
The down side of this place is the pricing. In 2003 we paid about $850.00 for 9 nights. In 2007 i paid $1,750.00 (hotel only) for the Carnival package alone. My friends and I have reserved as many as 9 rooms there and they wouldn't give a discount. All of us were staying at least 7 nights others stayed 10. With the decline of the US dollar and the rise of the Brazilian Real, the hotel has been raising its' prices almost 20% each year.
They do have a swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, whirlpool, and a workout room. This hotel is part of the Promenade hotels chain. If it wasn't for the Hotel rates during Carnival I would rate this place as excellent.
